It's pointless you all saying that you've got tiny W10 installs. That was my point. W7 was larger footprint than W10.

I actually think Microsoft went backwards with W10. W8.1 was the sweetspot but I couldn't refuse the update offer, no premature EOL. I think W10 will sail past 2023 but it will be a different animal when W7 actually EOLs

I started this aspect of the topic. I don't game anymore (did on my 1st PC back in 1978!), but there are two points here. Why should the least able (Home) to cope with new update problems, be forced to update, while the Pro users are allowed to delay updates. This is wrong.

The 'Home for Games' version, should have the option to delay updates. In fact game players need a much faster machine than many professional users.

Why should a business user have games on their PC. This reduces office efficiency and the need for tech support to remove them.
Why shouldn't a business user use Enterprise? Pro is a poor man's OS, there's the real fluff of the issue.

MS gives zero ***** to those with no bucks.

I do not install things I do not need or want like Cortana, OneDrive, Many of the apps. Win 10 is faster than Windows 7 ever was.

You REMOVE things you do not need or want. There's a lot less of a headache in just IGNORING what you don't use. MS will get the same telemetry from us both, just I spend more time actually using the machine.

Notwithstanding, W7 is bigger footprint than W10, W10 performs better than W7. I agree with you.

We have fundamentally different approaches about installing an OS. You take an axe to yours, I like vanilla. It's been proven time and again with every MS OS; you take bits out or try to 'cripple' or "shut it up" and it may well behave unexpectedly. That's the reasoning behind my approach. Change only what you need, not what you don't need.

One BIG problem remains , and its getting worse with 1809 !
You can not change/ choose several settings anymore , some examples ; no Classic Context Menu , try to remove the "store" from your contextmenu , no luck !.......etc. etc.
We are no owner of our own device anymore , its mr.MS who rules more and more.............
    Very sad .....
Of course you can. It is the same as ever. Make a small file that runs all the regedit changes you want.

Some of your changes stick around after an upgrade, some don't. I find it easier to bang the whole lot in even if (which may be the case) some of the old ones don't do nothing no more.

I've never had to remove old ones - they just stop working.

I did this all through 3 1/2 years in The Insider program with no issues. What I remove is from the TUTs in this forum. I do not use any app to even try to stop telemetry because it is not possible to block it all. The only issue I have is that sleep will not work, but that is due to the age of my PC and not caused by anything I removed.

It's a fundamentally differing approach is all. You're welcome to do all the tinkering you like.

I don't have the inclination each feature upgrade to do any of it because it seems like there's enough to keep your eye on with them changing preferences you may have actually set.

A feature update at least for me only updates the features I have other than Apps that are easily removed..Since my PC is like 8 years old, I may have updated it the last time. But we shall see, if worse comes to worse I can get or build a new PC and use this one exclusively for Linux.

I can go from any installed Edition to Enterprise with product key change. Or clean install Enterprise if I so chose. No having to have Pro already installed.
Also, none of the Apps I removed with power shell came back when I upgraded from 1803 to 1809.
He does seem to be rather opinionated doesn't he?
