Gamers often need functionality not in W10 Home like deferring updates easily. Drivers that auto update, etc. makes a terrible mess, it's just easier to be able to flick switches.

I take it you don't game.
No, I am not a gamer. My real point was that for small businesses that use a few PCs networked together in their office, things like the Candy Crush Soda thing, and others, would probably be discouraged. Maybe Windows needs a Win 10 Gaming Edition, and get the foo-fah out of Pro.

You use the actual W10 apology that passes for a Start Menu? I never see tiles and I've stripped nothing (don't particularly feel much love for the ModernUI creep, but hey it's on the death list so....)
I do occasionally use it. The stuff I use every day is pinned to my taskbar for one click easy launch. Other often used items are on my Start Screen. Its the All Apps screen thats littered with junk that I like to thin out. Like I said, its just personal preference.

Even the Enterprise Edition now has candy Crush etc. Who thought that was a good idea?

Alternatively, MS should use Brink's PowerShell scripts and make a GUI front end to remove the apps. But that would make sense and contradicts the direction MS is going.

    Sounds a bit elitist

Nope, it doesn't need an additional SKU for Gamers. They always wanted (to pirate) Ultimate Edition because it was l33t. Pro will do them, they don't need the pleb version and they don't need the suited and booted version.

If you don't want things like Candy Crush, March Of Empires, Bubble Witch, Disney's Magic Kingdoms, etc. make sure your computer is NOT connected to the Internet when doing a Windows 10 install. This even applies to W10 Home Edition.

The new 1809 version is rather insistent on asking for Internet access during the install (including a 2 or 3 minute 'pause' after the second reboot where I assume it is trying to connect but I just ignore it and the installation eventually resumes).

I also turn off and remove the flipping, flashing tiles which I do not like and would never use anyway, not sure if this is also necessary to avoid Candy Crush, etc. but I do it before allowing W10 to connect to the Internet.

A lot of other unnecessary items like XBox, People, Microsoft Store, etc. which do come with W10 whether it is connected to the Internet or not during the install I remove with the Tools option of CCleaner. None of the abovementioned items appear/reappear after running Windows Update.

That's pretty much what I see on my clients' PCs/laptops as well and still don't know why the Windows folder size fluctuate in size.
Not being funny but if you have clients surely you would be expected to see the problem.

You didn't seem to notice that SoftwareDownloads was 9GB (when full ISO is only 3GB) nor that in both pictures you had a spare GB of LiveKernalReports. Nor that Installer was 19GB. Are they paying you for this?

Fair play to you if they are.

If your Windows directory is >20GB you really have got a problem and should open a separate thread about it.

Here is an old PC I never compressed and upgraded since the first preview of Windows 10.

    Attachment 208478

And here is another I did compress (see it is 9GB not 15GB) but did nothing else with :

    Attachment 208479

Both have Office installed but not much else. Normally a large Installer directory like in your second picture is because of Office but 19GB seems extreme. Probably a bug.

Open a new thread if you are stuck but it certainly isn't normal.

I'm not implying anything, sorry if you took it as a slight. It was a bit of a joke, if you have to explain the punchline they're not funny.

You can bet if the Home version doesn't have something the Pro version does, a gamer will need it. They won't want the slow progress of the Enterprise / LTSB version.

Three versions of Windows is enough for anyone.
