MS will only take note when they notice Windows sales decline and people go elsewhere (Apple?).

    Hi there
    Agree article was outstanding

There's nothing wrong say in Windows PRO taking a leaf out of Linux book and offering LTS (long term support) --e.g CENTOS 7 which is a very robust Enterprise level system based on (and supported) by RED HAT powers zillions of servers worldwide reliably, scalably and robustly.

Even kernel updates are far and few between releases -- currently it's still using Kernel 3 while a load of current distros - usually destined for home users destops are on kernel 4. You can of course add software etc - but the whole point of this distro isn't to be leading edge with highest technology but to be relatively "boring", solid as a rock and to perform sensibly and efficiently.

As the article says would I say doing a professional job on an I.T site need all the games etc stuff that comes installed with even the PRO version of windows -- distinguish between HOME and PRO sensibly -- home users can always add software to PRO if they want it. Concentrate less on "Features" and get the base OS working stably 100%. For missing things 3rd party developers will always supply the need -- there's no shortage of reliable software on the Linux platform even though pretty well a lot of l.T developers don't get paid a penny.

Windows is a great concept and considering the different hardware it works on and the totally myriad of ways in which it is used it's amazing it got this far at all -- it's much easier in fact designing something essentially useable by SME's which don't need or do a lot of changes / updates and operate stable systems than a package like Windows used in almost as many different ways as there are people on the planet.

Ms need to get Windows back to its roots -- make it a great HOME OS for home users, fix Networking etc for Enterprise users by cutting out bloat etc and help 3rd party developers in providing for optional features in the way CENTOs / RED HAT or OPENSUSE / SUSE ENTERPRISE or UBUNTU / CANONICAL do with their open source / 3rd party developers.

At the moment Windows is going nowhere --it's a great rudderless ship -- in fact it's almost begging for an Iceberg to appear and hit it. !!

    Cheers
