Bi-annual updates are hard for me; on 3 of my 5 PCs I need to move the hard-drive to update on another machine, so it took me a whole day to update to 1809, so I am not about to downgrade to 1803

Then again 1809 is running great on all 5 units.

Mind if I ask why you have to do this?

Most often it is because the machines lock up around 85% of the install; the problem has persisted since the very first version (2015); I suspect it may have something to do with the on-board video as I have a similar machine with a video card that has no such issues (the one I use to update the hard drive of the others).

Once updated they run just great till the next major update in 6 months.

All machines are around 8 years old (4 Core 2, one Athlon II), and have passed RAM tests and the hard drives checked for bad sectors. Even the power supplies get checked, and bad capacitors replaced.

After installing this update, my new notifications dialog on bottom right shows it's getting notifications for me to look at with a number but when i click on it, nothing is displayed. The area where they used to show is empty. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes, there is a work around. You need to allow background apps to run. See here. Action Center stopped working after 1809

    Hi,

"Background Apps" OFF issue affects WinDefender notifications, too.

Only "Windows Security" must be ON for notifications to work properly.
You may turn OFF all the rests...one by one.

WinDefender inside settings must not be affected by other/elsewhere settings except those of Group Policy (imo).
