    Of course,. I just hope they don't forget ...

    I like so many of you had this update fail on the first attemp according to update history but it installed on the second. From my perspective it only installed once and completed normally so what gives?

    KB 4464330 installed without any dramas on my four win10 laptops, but the update hasn't fixed any of the post-1809 problems I'm seeing on all 4 machines:

    1. After a restart my brightness settings revert to 50%, even though I had them set to 100% or "Brightest" (depending on the laptop). I can easily set it manually to where I want it on re-start, but it's annoying having to do so.

    2. Windows Defender is marking my definitions updates 11 hrs ahead of current NZ time, which is fascinating given that NZT is already 20hrs AHEAD of Redmond, WA. This is also not a huge issue - the main thing is it is updating.

    3. Microsoft Edge and very often Internet Explorer are not closing themselves off properly. I have Edge turned off in the background apps setting, yet when I run CCleaner it still requires a force stop of both applications - it tries to close them but comes up with the message that the application is taking a long time to close, would I like to force stop it. No amount of waiting will do it - it always needs a force close.

    4. That stupid user profile error that started appearing after updating to 1809 still happens and is is filling up my event viewer like nobody's business.

    3 & 4 bug me, so I hope they fix them.

    I also noticed a WindowsUpdateClient error entry in my event viewer saying "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: 2018-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64-based Systems (KB4464330)." but it hasn't been followed by an entry saying it was successful like some are seeing here. However I'm sure it WAS successful as it has updated my system to 17763.55, and the update does show as being successfully installed in my update history. Also I went to "uninstall updates" and both 4464330 and the SSU one show as being installed.

    The only other problem I've had since 1809 is Netflix won't play on Edge or in the store app on one laptop if I have the laptop hooked up to an external monitor. It did before, so something has borked it. It's working when I use the laptop on it's own though, and it works with the external monitor if I use Chrome. When I go to device manager & try & search for updated Intel graphics & N-Videa Quadro drivers it always come back saying I have the best ones installed for both, even they both pre-date 1809... Same with the audio drivers. Nothing is being offered via my N-Videa control panel or HP Update assistant either.

    Installed successfully after failing at the first attempt. The SSU (KB4465477) does not appear in Update History, but does in the control panel list of installed updates

    Looks like 3 updates over the last 30 days has tuckered them out at Microsoft.

    I noticed this on my new P52 ThinkPad laptop and I though the problem was Lenovo's but you are seeing this also, then this is a more generic Windows problem.

    I have the same issue that I set my brightness to a specific level and when I reboot, the brightness is down to a fixed level.

    Has anyone else seen this problem on a laptop ?

    Hey catspyjamas,
    3. Edge may be pre-loading at startup in which case when you close it still shows in Task Manager as suspended. If it is pre-loading at startup you can't stop that ... see this tutorial - Enable or Disable Microsoft Edge Pre-launching in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

    4. If you're referring to the Event ID 1534 - User Profile Service Error in Event Viewer you can fix that by doing the following. If you're not comfortable doing the following ... then don't it and wait for MS to fix it .

    Code:
    1. Use ExecTi to open Regedit and navigate to the following two keys ...
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileNotification
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileNotification

    2. Under ProfileNotification check if you have the TDL key

    3. Delete the TDL key at each location

    4. Search the registry for the B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB key and delete them.
    These are the registry locations where they are ... You may or may not have all of them ...
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WOW6432Node\CLSID\{B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB}

    5. Reboot PC to verify

    Note:
    1. I would export the keys ... before you delete them ... just to be on the safe side.
    2. Download ExecTI
    3. If you don't use ExecTi, then you'll have to manually change the permissions (owner) on each key before you can delete it.

    @pjg61

    Regarding brightness, please reload the driver from Lenovo for your display. It will likley be older than one 1809 has installed.

    Note the details of your current driver so that you can confirm that the Lenovo driver is in use after you install.

    Hi Eagle51

    Thanks heaps for your reply. The issue of Edge having to be force closed by CCleaner happens when I've launched Edge myself at some point in the session, or sometimes when I've opened some Win 10 store apps. If I haven't opened any Win 10 apps or Edge, then it doesn't need to be force closed, which makes me think it isn't being auto launched on start up. I have Edge processes in the taskmanager showing as suspended well after I have closed Edge, but even being suspended still requires CCleaner to force close it. This has only started happening since 1809.

    Thank-you for your instructions re the user profile error - yup it's that 1534 one. I was hoping it would be fixed in the CU today along with those other things, but I guess MS have bigger fish to fry atm. Messing about in the registry does make me really nervous I must admit, and I'm not familiar with the ExecTi tool at all. I might give MS a few more Patch Tuesdays (or Wednesdays in NZ) to see if they fix it themselves, and if they don't and it still annoys me, I'll try the fix on my least important laptop first. :)
