I didn't have the activation issue but sometimes when checking for updates it takes a long time and then throws me this. (I've already reset Windows Update several times but it happens either way).
Please note I have Automatic Updates disabled through group policy. Worked perfectly fine in 1803.

And I wonder how many more times they expect us to bend over. MS needs to communicate to its users just what the heck is going on with 1809. Every day that they don't, my opinion of the company drops a few percentage points. It's getting ridiculous, and I'm getting disgusted.
This issue had nothing to do with 1809!

That's true, cereberus, but I think sgage's point is--what the heck is going on with 1809? I mean, they pulled it a few days after they released it, and what have we heard since then, from Redmond? NOTHING. I'm seeing more about 19H1 than I am about 1809, for crying out loud!

I'm talking about the clear and obvious fiasco that has been taking place ever since the original release of 1809 and subsequent 'pause'. The activation issue is just another bit of floundering added on top. Something is rotten in Redmond.

I am having withdrawal symptoms - it's been almost a month since the last CU for 1809. I had got used to updates every week or two for 1803. Getting twitchy.

Ok. Your answer was in middle of a discussion about the activation so I misinterpreted it.

Any Audacity users in 1809 ? Strange problem.

EDIT... Found the answer. See post below.

I've just encountered an odd issue in Audacity when running on my laptop which has 1809 clean installed.

I went to create a test tone to help someone troubleshoot an amplifier issue and I needed 30 seconds left channel, 30 seconds right channel and then 30 seconds mono. I've done this kind of thing many times and was surprised when I played the tone back that there was no L and R separation. To check that the file was actually correct I exported it and played it back on a separate dedicated audio unit. That seemed fine. Import that same file into Audacity and it plays as mono.

I haven't even begun to investigate this as yet but just wondered if anyone using Audacity (or not) had noticed audio issues in 1809.

I have attached the audio file as produced by Audacity in case anyone wants to try this. If the file is imported into Audacity then it should play as stereo. Its a low bit rate (64k) MP3 audio track.

What I'd like to know is what were they doing on the server to cause this problem? They had to be messing around with activation code, what were they trying to do?
What's happening is great confusion reigning in MS. Looks like the head doesn't know which way the tail is wagging (as a saying goes in my country).

I think I've found the answer. Their is a setting on the Dell Audio control panel that interacts with the Realtek driver to give a fuller sound on speech. Turning this OFF restores L and R separation. The weird thing is that checking L and R in the normal way with typical speech test tracks didn't show a problem. 440Hz as used in my test is slap bang around the centre frequency this 'enhancement' feature operates.

Bugs can happen to anyone anytime. Timing can be very "funny" sometimes. The official John Cable's blog post from Oct 9 explains the whole situation well, I guess. Proper, deep testing of such a (hardly reproducible) serious issue just needs some time. There's no need to add anything else.
