Lol, the current state of Windows registry is a mess. Why would someone even want to backup that rats nest? 
Seriously, MS has clearly not payed enough attention to the registry, including it's permissions or giving certain apps configuration and activation access. I've had to fix tons of registry permission errors so that Windows runs smoothly. Gets worse after each new release and on this build there are a few error events I can't even fix.

During the course of 2 weeks, my Windows reliability index has been everything from 1 to 8.5. That is horrible, and clearly shows that there's a lot still to fix. Usually I have an index of 10.

Hi folks
As it's so quick to back up entire system I have to ask whether it's even worth backing up registry - since presumably if a registry hose up messes up your system a 15 min restore should fix it (assuming windows OS on its own partition / Disk and stored on an SSD which so many seem to have these days anyway.

Mine has been on '1' consistently from day one after clean installing 1809. Everything runs great though, zero issues that I'm aware of although Reliability Monitor thinks otherwise.

True- until you encounter a user who hasn't yet discovered that value of doing that ...and has an unbootable PC.

If user can't boot PC how can he/she restore registry anyway !!!!!
I remember working for a large Oil company - and if you had problems with PC's you had to email a help desk (located presumably at the other end of the planet !!!) -- so I tried to find out what happens if your PC isn't working !!! -- silence at the other end !!!!! -- same Oil company also on their fire drill expected all personnel on site to assemble in the undeground car park of all places --cars filled with gasoline, diesel, LPG etc etc !!!!!!!!

Easy. As I said above there are plenty of write-ups on doing that.
Boot from a live boot disk and copy the relevant files - or use a Win 10 bootable medium, and boot to a command prompt and then copy them.
Hmm, that sounds fun.. I was in Uzbekistan earlier this year- everything runs on almost free LPG. When our car pulled in to refuel, my rather worried landlord suggested we left the vehicle and went round the corner...

Can boot from a PE, any rescue disk or even Windows installation disk, drop to console(dos) and do it manually like in olden times.

No you can't in a company where the help desk is on the other side of the world, BIOS is password locked, HDD hardware and software encrypted and any type of USB or DVD boot is completely disabled.
Only way to fix the issue is to replace the physical computer with a working one and send the broken one to the other side of the globe.
