You can always go back to the one before and so on until you find a good one. From there, you are good to go. By the way, I only use differential and you will understand why. Let say in incremental mode, if one of your sequences is corrupt or doesn't work, you are royally screwed while with the differential mode you don't have that problem. I know you understand where I am coming from..

I use the free version of Macrium Reflect to make full system images once or twice a week. System/program code is not really all that changeable, and easily caught up with. Every day I run a batch file using robocopy to back up my changeable data folders incrementally. It takes about a minute. So all of my data is on two (alternating day by day) external HD's in simple directory form, available to browse and copy and delete or what have you.

I don't feel a need to take a full image every day. But my data is very important to me. I have some going back to 8-bit CP/M days, no kidding. If my house catches fire and I have to bug out, I grab my old guitar and one of my HD's. If my house burns down while I'm away or something, I'll lose my data, but then I'll have bigger worries at that point.

This happened on two devices last night. I was in the SoftwareDistribution download folder last night during one of those things and noticed this: the Antimalware platform update goes into the install folder (the file is named UpdatePlatform), maybe the definition update goes into the install folder right then and there, the Antimalware platform update completes and then the install folder is deleted, and I think this causes the Definition update to fail because the folder deletion deleted the file it was trying to install. But then it does another check and downloads definitions. So, no harm, no foul in the overall scheme of things.

The 'amusing' thing is that the definition update that failed would be older than the definition update downloaded and installed within 30 minutes of the failure.

yeah, i'm just noting that the install folder being deleted automatically after installing the AMP update might be the reason for definition updates failing around that same time. It's one of those sequencing things. If it was possible to not have a new definition update when the Antimalware Platform showed up, then it'd fetch the AMP, install it, and move on.

Have done hundreds of restores with no issues. I do daily automated incremental and weekly differentials and usually a full manual every week or two.

Yes, robocopy is fast, reliable, and understandable. Does my daily data backup refresh in about a minute or two, and it's all good. Staying thoroughly backed up does not need to be complicated or time consuming...
