There is still the copy from zip file issue. The fix hasn't made it to the Release Preview yet.

Today is not a normal 2nd of the month Patch Tuesday. It's not even a normal "C"/"D" 3rd/4th Tuesday. Anything could happen, at any time.

As a refresher, or for those not familiar with it:

Thanks for linking the failure of Defender updates to the platform update everyone. These kind of coincidences always seem to happen just when you are trying something out and leave you wondering if something broke along the way.

I find a restart usually triggers an update check/installation.
That's the same for me too mate. Its something I discovered a few months ago. I was going through the same as you..retry installing the defender update, running windows update troubleshooting etc. Ever since then though I too have noticed that any Defender definition that comes at the same time as an antimalware platform update fails every single time. I just ignore it and it corrects itself or the next definition update corrects it...so don't worry about it

It would be scary if they released this update on Oct. 31st.

Then it would either be a Trick (aka undiscovered bug found) or a Treat and work well if released on October 31st officially lol. Though could even be October 30th, last Tuesday of October lol (but who knows for sure)

If it's released on the 5th of November (Bonfire Night/ Fireworks Night/ Guy Fawkes...) then there would be two possibilities in the UK:

(I wonder who that might be...)

    or
