Although it reports as failed, when I open Defender it shows as using the same version as is reported to have failed.

Mine failed and as son as I clicked Retry it installed successfully. The Gremlins are working overtime!

Today already received 7 ( !) Defender updates , one failed , other 6 went fine..........
( 7 updates and the day is not over yet , is this normal behaviour ??)

Only 3 today, average is 3 - 5.

" average is 3 - 5.".................so Im double protected with 7 updates !!

Please post a screenshot of your update history, expanding Definition Updates so that it shows how many updates you have received today.

Hi there

got a fail as well today although currently on 1809 -17763.55

redid it and worked OK at around 13.40 local time. Weird !!!!! In English bar means retry. No re-boot / restart - just went for the retry / redo.

Thanks for linking the failure of Defender updates to the platform update everyone. These kind of coincidences always seem to happen just when you are trying something out and leave you wondering if something broke along the way.

I find a restart usually triggers an update check/installation.

IMO these Definition Update failures and retries are nothing to do with 1809.
Getting them on 1803 also

But as others have said, they've never been uncommon.
