Unfortunately, the end of October very likely doesn't mean nothing here - 1809 was already officially released (Oct 2), now it's "only" paused :/
As long as they don't rush it out to stay within October - if they do we'll be back where we started!

And, @winactive You're so right, the whole Testing Team at MS seems to have forgotten its basic principles.
Unit, System, Integration, UI, REGRESSION Testing all have their places - at least they should in a well-organised Development Cycle!

Didn't they fire the Testing Team a few years ago? That's why they introduced the Insider program, because those people became the testers for Windows 10.

Well, that's what I heard from a person who was a tester at Microsoft and they all got fired a couple of years ago. He already cautioned the higher ups about this and warned them that this could eventually bite them in the ass. Well, it seems he was right, seeing what is happening with the current release.

I don't know details of that, but as I've mentioned here before, MS (UK) didn't pay their contract testers very well.
I was offered (via an agency) an interview with them some years ago for a contract test role - I didn't even consider it worth going to the interview!

    Hi there

To "Save money" isn't Ms an advocate of "Test in Production" scenarios -- why waste money on test systems, test software and developers !!!

And of course with the insider programs they have loads of seemingly willing guinea pigs who spend a lot of their own free time testing and also attempting to debug stuff that should be done in the Ms labs. For Ms seems a win-win situation !!!!

    Cheers

And, as has been said elsewhere, MS's corporate clients simply wait until we mugs have tested it before they update, rather than MS presenting the whole world with a finished product at outset.

Says a lot when people are replacing the most basic of functions of an OS with 3rd party software (not apps, I hasten to add)

Browser (Controversially part / not part of the OS), text editors and compression utilities.

File Explorer, let's go back to the future before it's too late

I'd rather they get out of applets business, leave that to 3rd party developers and concentrate on OS itself.

Apps has become a $77 Billion industry and could double in the next two years. Not a penny from me.

There are so few people that use Windows Explorer to extract compressed files that maybe that's why this bug went unnoticed:

The Windows 10 October 2018 Update has another strange file management issue which could lead to data loss

I already confirmed that the bug exists but I also confirmed that this bug is not present in the Fast ring and Skip Ahead builds, so Microsoft may already know about this bug and they are going to back ported the fix to O18U with a CU as they have done several times in the past and as they did recently with the fix of the bugs of the task manager.
I never use Windows Explorer to extract files because there is no support for 7zip files. I install Bandizip right away.

Looks like MS is run with raccoons: what was good, they demolish... and say: aww, just let it slide, the Insiders won't notice it probably...
