Some people tested, that the performance has improved with the compact mode enabled.
Since files are smaller, you will get a smaller I/O rate, but at the cost of a little CPU usage.

All very interesting stuff on this compact OS topic. I found this article which also surprisingly found benchmark figures improved. There is also something on recovery partitions being deleted when doing this.

As told in tutorial, enter following command in elevated Command Prompt:
compact /compactos:never
