No impact on disk performance but "lost" about 3GB.

I have a 1-TB HD with 858 GB free with 16 GB RAM. Shouldn't need to be in compact mode.
Some people tested, that the performance has improved with the compact mode enabled.
Since files are smaller, you will get a smaller I/O rate, but at the cost of a little CPU usage.

I have un-compacted mine. I haven't run any precise benchmarks or anything, but subjectively I notice no change whatsoever.

It is actually very simple - it should only invoke CompactOS on small drives e.g. 32GB mmc drives. On anything much larger (cannot remember cutoff point), it does not use Compact OS. You can manually invoke it but there is a tradeoff between space saved and decompression time.
I checked and CompactOS was invoked on my Fast Insider machine (120 GB SSD). I uncompacted it and checked again. It showed CompactOS was not invoked. But after I rebooted, it was invoked again.

This is true in my case. I've got a reasonably beefy CPU and my computer was always snappy but it does seem to be even better than before. So, I'm certainly not complaining.

All very interesting stuff on this compact OS topic. I found this article which also surprisingly found benchmark figures improved. There is also something on recovery partitions being deleted when doing this.

Just checked mine after rebooting and it's still un-compacted. How long is it going to stay that way? Maybe till the next CU? We'll see

The question I have is, how do you turn compactos off if you don't want it. You should have control of this.
@Brink, time for a new tutorial

    It's off on my system.

It is told in Brink's tutorial, published over three years ago, link posted a few times in this thread: Compress or Uncompress Windows 10 with Compact OS | Windows 10 Tutorials

As told in tutorial, enter following command in elevated Command Prompt:

    compact /compactos:never
