No impact on disk performance but "lost" about 3GB.

I have un-compacted mine. I haven't run any precise benchmarks or anything, but subjectively I notice no change whatsoever.

I checked and CompactOS was invoked on my Fast Insider machine (120 GB SSD). I uncompacted it and checked again. It showed CompactOS was not invoked. But after I rebooted, it was invoked again.

This is true in my case. I've got a reasonably beefy CPU and my computer was always snappy but it does seem to be even better than before. So, I'm certainly not complaining.

All very interesting stuff on this compact OS topic. I found this article which also surprisingly found benchmark figures improved. There is also something on recovery partitions being deleted when doing this.

Just checked mine after rebooting and it's still un-compacted. How long is it going to stay that way? Maybe till the next CU? We'll see

The question I have is, how do you turn compactos off if you don't want it. You should have control of this.

As told in tutorial, enter following command in elevated Command Prompt:

compact /compactos:never
