The upgrade to 1809 is still paused.

The cumulative update is for those (like me) who upgraded to 1809 before the roll out was suspended. If you are on 1809 it should be delivered in the normal way through windows update.

I know chances are small but 'am expecting a new Fast or Skippy build today. Doing all checks and backups and deliberately placed some files in User\Documents folders.

@jimbo45 you are absolutely correct.

Windows and Linux are two completely different beasts. You can improve Linux performance quite a lot by simply statically compiling drivers into the kernel, or make it hugely slower by making all drivers dynamic. I used to experiment with this and the difference is HUGE.

Overall Windows performce has caught up with Linux quite a lot. Now the difference is very slim, but about 20 years ago I got 30-500% more performance out of a Linux system compared to Windows with similar workloads.

EDIT: Yes it's not a typo. Up to 5x faster in some cases.

We have explained many times, traditional Patch Tuesday is no longer rigorously adhered to and is more of a guideline rather than strict rules. Updates can be issued any day, but Tuesdays are favoured. If a fix is urgent, it can be any day including Sundays.

It was more like 10000% stable to run Linux than Windows back in the day. At least on my hardware. Never had any issues on Linux.

It is still rigorously adhered to in one sense, it is the only cumulative update to include new security fixes. The others will normally be more like previews of the non-security fixes due to be included in the next 'Patch Tuesday' release (but will not have any new security fixes). I suspect 1809 is due to get quite a few of those 'non-security fixes' this month

Update Tuesday (most often referred to as Patch Tuesday) updates are published the second Tuesday of each month. These updates are the primary and most important of all the monthly update events and are the only regular releases that include new security fixes....

HA ! Used to be but my Mint went belly up twice in last year although it's used only 10% of the time and my Insider Fast /Skippy are running since beginning.
