I didn't know one could do that....serves me right for not "RTFM" I suppose!

Just to add my thoughts about the cloud - I do all my backups locally, then put drives away until needed again.
Have been known to store one offsite as needed.

I have Google Drive which I use when I want to access stuff on my tablet when away from home, but generally prefer to use Dropbox - who don't report to MS or Google...do they?.
I have OneDrive for..........well it might be useful someday!

And, my Windows machines are NOT logged into MS except on the rare occasions that I might want to use Onedrive. So they're not synced either to each other or to MS.

They are connected via my home LAN - THIS side of the Firewall!

So for sure Google knows what I do in Chrome and my apps. MS doesn't know what I'm doing on Windows and doesn't need to know and Google doesn't care.

I use Chrome as my main (but not default) Browser which is logged into Google, so If I want to do any "secret searches" I use IE InPrivate or Edge - so even if I do a Google search rather than DDG - I'm not logged into anything!

Oh and I keep Edge set as my default browser so if I click on a link, it opens in a browser that's not logged in!

So they can all b***er off and mind their business...so there!

And, none of the stuff I do store in the Cloud is personal or confidential - some of it I actually share with others anyway so really not that important who sees it!

Welp, I've been running 1809 on my 7th Gen Acer desktop since the 4th. No missing files or any other problems. My computer definitely runs faster with 1809 than 1803, start up time is cut in half. Even browsing the internet is faster. I hope they get it rolling again soon, I'd like to put this on my other two computers. My 2006 Gateway laptop needs every bit of help it can get in the speed department

@lx07, I tested a repair upgrade (not connected to internet) on 1809 with KFR in force (and files in user folder on C drive), and as I expected, it installed 17763.1 and deleted user files.

I am now doing same to see what happens if connected to internet. It did say looking for updates quite quickly but is that enough - we shall see soon

the other problem with using the cloud is not only have you 100% zero control over where your data is stored but also over the rules that the "host country" makes over data security etc etc.

I'm sure while data storage might be incredibly cheap say in Pakistan, N.Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia etc so for businesses looking after the bottom line i.e dollar cost -- I'm sure a lot of people would love to have their data stored and regulated by authorities in that spattering of "democratic countries" I've listed above just as an example.

Personally when small efficient passport drives (4TB) are available cheaply -- I think for less than 130 EUR a pop (inc tax) there's no reason IMO to use external services for your data. For businesses it's a different argument to use 3rd party services to supply I.T infrastructure and data storage but the whole idea of these cloud servers should IMO be far more open and transparent so customers who don't like the idea of doing business with certain regimes could check where there services are actually hosted.

Hmm - this surprised me slightly. It did not remove any files but also kept version as 17763.1 - So I guess they push the fix during installation phase. I am vaguely aware that the initial updates do that but do not install the normal updates which you have to do via normal windows updates.

So a repair upgrade works as expected provided you connect to the internet.

The key question now is will MS update the iso etc, or just push it via the installation process?

I think that if there is any way that fails then a new iso is required. MS would be crucified if anyone lost data on a repair install because of this.

I agree - in fact I usually install or repair without connecting to Internet as it is quicker.
