Simply said - Microsoft has dropped an almighty clanger to customers who use the OS as is. Joe public don't care about this forum or 'Updates' or any 'tech' side of their laptops. They want to switch on and it works. If you leave an older lappy off for a few days then it becomes cumbersome to just boot and use. Windows update - security update and of course the 'hidden' Store Apps updates.
Apple must be relishing the posts on here.

Last I heard Apple is fixing problems with their OS left and right. Not long time ago some users were left with inoperable keyboard for instance, portable computers had battery life reduced etc.

Every poll I have seen has not had any significant responses to suggest it is really a wide scale issue.

Perhaps it is a big deal, perhaps not.
Do tell what polls you have seen though as I've only seen idle speculation and individuals saying it happened to 3/4 of their friends or none.
Only MS knows and they aren't saying.
If you have knowlede of some polling done to show the extent of the problem it really would be interesting but I imagine, sorry to be rude, you don't.

Apple is too expensive. If G can put something together... Chrome RealOS or whatever, then.... They might as well... they own the smartphone, search, youtube, the browser..

Yes and rumour were Mac was dead and iOS for 'tablets' was the way to go.

They were all gifts. The one I'm using right now is a MacbookPro2,1 from late 2006. C2D with 3GB RAM.
1809 works fine.

What I was trying to say (unclearly it seems) polls have been run on sites and the answers are so inconclusive as to be meaningless.
Problem with this issue, you have to be getting responses from literally thousands of people, and most polls only get maybe ten - 20 replies. So if one in a hundred thousand replies, one could end up believing one out of ten people get this issue.
In the end, I believe the issue is quite rare even if a user is doing KFR.
Is MS right or not - they get lots of telemetry?
Does that help MS work out the scale of the issue - I guess we will never know?
I am trying a test where I install 1803, set up KFR and upgrade using an iso created before .17 fix (which I also tested and it worked fine but again does that prove anything unless we know or sure every KFR case fails consistently (which I seriously doubt)).
In the end, it is all verbal semantics - an issue has been identified and fixed but is it the only cause?
The problem now is that even if just one person in the world loses data for a totally different reason, the Media will blow it up far out of proportion as they never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
