I feel sorry for foreign exchange students that go to school in other "English" speaking countries only learning they have to spell words they knew differently then what they were taught
Again this is demographic - Commonwealth Countries use UK English Spelling mostly with the major exception being Canada.

Right, but I was referring to future updates by people who have the "problem system". Am I making any sense?

Old Windows 7 machine that the owner decides to update to 1809 much later. If they haven't isolated the code that causes the file deletion, would this guy/gal lose all their files?
Never store anything in the C drive user folder. However it can be hard for newbies as Windows loves to default everything to the stupid user folder.

That spelling was used in UK as far back as 1700s.

Many UK English words use an original French derivate e.g. Insider Programme.

Of course, any Brit knows UK English is the "Lingua Franca" of Europe - LOL.
Yes, swine, pig, Anglo-Saxon > Pork (Porc), French, for instance.
And don't let me start with difference between English and " American", even Canadians call most parts as Americans.
    Lorry > Truck
    Bonnet > Hood
    Boot > Trunk
    etc.

That's a whole different scenario, I believe, Wynona. The upgrade path from Win 7 to Win 10 anything would preclude the set of circumstances that caused this to happen.

I totally agree with keeping data on another drive but I did lose data as my secondary drive got scrambled but as I came from days of floppy disks where 1/10 disks failed, backups are ingrained in me.

For critical data, we used to make 3 copies to reduce failure to 0.1^3 i.e. 1/1000.

Agree. I also backup my most important files like photos on Google Drive and OneDrive.

So confusing. Why can the entire world use the same English language. Wonder if other languages have this issue or it is just the terrible English language?
    Hi there

Try French - Belgium for example 70 is different to 70 in French, Flemish has different words to Dutch, Afrikaans has different words to both, Icelandic based on Old Norse has diverged differently, Mexican spanish different to catalan, brazilian portuguese different to Lisbon Portuguese etc.

It would be impossible to have a totally 100% unified language --different customs, traditions etc etc -- not possible sometimes to even explain to other cultures a meaning of a local event etc.

In any case would we really want a bland universal language "Robotese" for example.

    Cheers

Just trying to make myself understood, TC. Finally figured out how, I think.

As a f'r instance, we have one Guru who won't update to 1809 for a couple or three months. What if that guru's system is one that 1809 deletes personal files from?

The guru decides everything's hunky dory once more, and at that point chooses to update to 1809. If the offending code hasn't been deleted . . . Whoops! All personal files are gone!

There are quit a few people that will do an upgrade and or clean install offline with no internet connection. If thats done with the currently pulled 1809 ISO, what will protect you from the file lose glitch? A CU isn't going to help, and I personally don't see that as the ultimate solution. One may be issued to patch the current installs, but I think the final solution is to make a new ISO with the fix rolled in.

And then there's the caveat faced by at least one person . . . I think she had her files on D:\ drive and they disappeared.
