SoFine409 -- I got 1809 through the Update Assistant Tuesday night and everything is there and working fine. The only issue I've found is the Windows Defender definition timestamp shows 4 hours earlier than current time on the WD user interface. The time in Windows Update for checks is correct.
What I'm curious about now is whether the lost data issue is related in any way to having a Microsoft account. My computer's on a local account (stopped using the MS account months ago). Two people I know use the MS account and they did lose data.
I don't use a local account at all, Crizal, and I didn't lose any data. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the data loss as far as I can see.

Your German quote was a bit vague. What do they mean by old? I'm running an Intel T7600 from 2006 which upgraded OK. What do they mean? Older than 2006? I think it is a red-herring.
I think they're mixing up two different problems. There also was an issue with an Intel driver that you had to update before upgrading.

This missing files bug affect the upgrade only. I've made a clean install about a week ago and I do not see any issues.

I already updated my two production computers/partitions; however, if I hadn't already, I wouldn't now! IOW, if I'd known about this bug ahead of time, my computers would still be on 1803.
There are way too many problems showing up for anyone to take chances with their data. No one should attempt to install 1809 unless they have a backup of all their data, or failing that, if they have the data on an external, unplugged, hard drive.

If you did a clean install with a copy of an ISO of 1809 made from the then available MCT, you wouldn't have any files to lose. Maybe I'm not clear on what you used or exactly when you did it.

Just how much of digital photography was there 25 years ago ?
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 years ago, a friend had a picture of his dad and wanted to share it with his siblings. It was an 8 x 10, so not digital.
I scanned it, cleaned it up and printed copies for him (there was no studio logo on the photo, or I wouldn't have done it). I saved the scan, put it on a floppy and sneakernetted it over to him so he'd have a "digital" copy.
That was my experience with "digital photography" around 25 years ago.

I agree Wynona. However, regardless of whether someone backs up data or not, the fickle finger points to Microsoft. Didn't they skip the Release Preview Ring and for all intents and purposes ignore reports about data loss posted in the Feedback Hub? Those of us here know about back ups, but, there a many more people "out there" that don't even know what that means. I know people who turn on their computer, use it and turn it off. They don't even know what Windows Update is! What's most important now is what is MS going to do about it (if they can do anything).

All else has been reverted to 1803 awaiting the Redmond Magic Wand. This will give a test bed for whatever fix they may/might come up with. Certainly not going to call some phone # 12,000 miles away.......

I've rolled back to 1803. The main reason is an architectural program I use often has crashed twice since I "upgraded" to 1809. I don't recall it ever crashing before. Then when I checked my Macrium backups, I saw the 1809 backup was more than 4 GB smaller than the 1803 backup done a few hours before. Although I hadn't noticed anything missing, that seemed suspicious. I guess Windows could have shrunk that much, but I somehow doubt it.
It's pretty normal for a new Windows version to be smaller, even with windows.old taking up space. I don't totally understand why but I've seen it a few times with previous versions.
I think it's because of how all the updates are stored over time in the older version, probably something to do with how WinSxS works (which I definitely don't understand!).

After doing a clean installation of the new update and doing a format disk c I did not notice deleting files from other disks nor any other problems
But I noticed a significant increase in disk c space. After checking, it turned out that there were 60GB of temporary files and they were in only one file! You delete the file,Has this happened with anyone?
