OK, did a repair update for 1809 and now I just noticed that the install just skips over the 'welcome-settings' screen, right before the HELLO message... That's not quite normal, right???? I'm getting logged right into Windows after the install... :/

Imagine if MS popped up messages saying 'Have you backed up your data' with a 'learn more' link?

Would that help educate people on the importance of backing up data.

It might help a few but we would get loads of whinging posts "How do we stop this annoying popup".

All this carryon about Windows being terrible etc. totally ignores the fact that people lose data for many mundane reasons eg drive failure, viruses, fire, clumsy fingers etc. etc. etc.

Regrettably people only learn the importance of backups AFTER they have lost data.

We can all sit here and talk about it but we are the converted.

Fundamentally, there is just a total lack of education.

It should start in the schools, with it being drummed into people's heads.

The crowing press coould help by regularly giving advice.

Most importantly, MS, Apple or whoever should popup a message before updating - "Have you backed up your data?"

Of course, zillions will just ignore it but they cannot say they were not warned.

Hey maybe they found out what's the cause of it all. PC with older Intel chips are at risk of getting data deleted than pcs with newer Intel Chipsets...(found in a German newsletter that I'm subbed to)

Important message for all Windows 10 users: Microsoft is currently warning before installing the October 2018 update for Windows 10 and has stopped downloading this version (number 1809). But apparently affected only Intel systems older date. In doing so, the software company is responding to users reporting in forums about suddenly-disappeared files after installing the October update. Microsoft takes these messages very seriously and therefore withdrew the update until further notice. On a support page for Windows 10, the company announces that they are now looking for clues and check the update for any errors.

Hmmmmmm...........

I have a very old CPU and and I am having no problems. No missing files or any problems wit taskmanager.

Yeah and all is still there :) But no post-install screen with all the options before getting onto the Desktop... Strange, right?
