Some of the success or failure may depend on what boxes you check / click during the setup. What options you say no too etc. And how customized your current install is, third party wise etc. And the file lose thing may depend on what features your taking advantage of. If your using one drive and or files on demand etc. Lots of variables. I agree though, they had indications something wasn't right but pressed on anyway.

OK, OK, found a bug again, now with VLC player. The player shifts to the sides when wanting full screen and can't remember the size. After setting full screen it remains that way but when you shut down VLC the whole story begins again with strange player sizes...

But I think the message Some settings are... (you know the rest haha!) comes from that during my installation of 1809 the screen turned black with only spinning circles and no HDD activity (PC was frozen at that point). After I resetted my PC the install continued as usual... (that was installing via WU)

When I installed 1809 via DVD the install would not continue after 36%. So I cancelled that and tried the WU way.

If you have VL versions change the 0 to 1 but I assume most here are standard (not VL) users.

Haven't had to do that in ages in any of my ISO's? MCT or Visual Studio. If I click "I don't have one" when prompted for a key I get the full list of Editions to install. If your not getting asked for a product key there must be an OEM embedded key in the BIOS or something?

I stopped using that tool because it never could restore anything for me. I had to manually go through a bunch of xml and weird file names to get my data back.

A simple cmd script does a better job and can restore anything from anywhere to anywhere at anytime.

In fact I have several disks and partitions organized by performance and backup requirements . I have an NVME M2 SSD that has two partitions; one is for the OS and that I back up, and the other for downloads and caches (things I can afford to loose but want performance) that I don't backup. I have 1.5 TB in SSD for games and fast system backups, and a 6 TB hard drive for my data,, long term system backups, and other crap. I back the data up with SyncToy to two external hard drives.

All is pretty much automated with daily and weekly scheduled scripts.

That is your situation. E.g. what of you jave many GBs of videos etc. Macrium would take a long time and use a lot of space - videos do not compress.

Not only that, if you keep multiple versions of OS backup as is common you backup the same data repeatedly, wasting space.

Keeping OS/progs separate from data allows you to create faster and more space efficient backup strategies.
