so much for insiders finding problems with the prebuilds
A few insiders actually reported this to Microsoft, but they didn't listen. Or maybe they did, but took the chance to release it anyway…

It has been pulled because of a loss of data issue reported by some users.
Thanks for info, I'll wait until it's sorted.

Any info on how the people who are already on 1809 will be helped?
If you haven't any issues, it should be safe to stay on 1809. Problem most likely may occur only during upgrade process.

Worth repeating again, I'm sure. Hard to read back 6 hours ago. Duplicates will happen.
And in this case, Duplicates should happen!

    Hi folks

I can't say I ever had "User files" deleted -- still can't believe that an OS would delete "User files" when doing an update.

Incidentally though users should always move documents / downloaded files / pictures to their own data areas (preferably not on the OS drive) because restoring a system or re-installing a system will re-create these files and your latest data can be lost / overwritten quite legitimately.

    Cheers

I've kept my data on an external drive for years, Jimbo. I now have it on an internal hard drive, and will soon put it on OneDrive to be certain everything's safe.

Couldn't agree more. The C: drive (or partition) is for the system - nothing else! That should be drummed into all Windows users as a basic fact of life. Drives are so big (capacity-wise) and so cheap these days that there's little reason NOT to make this a default.
Agreed, but as we all know, there are so many options that John Q. Public doesn't normally have the knowledge to make his/her files safe.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update rollout now paused-wotisit.png

can't imagine a PC with Intel i7 CPU, 32 GB RAM can't run Windows 10 Pro X-64 -- I've got an old Sony Pentium 4 VAIO laptop 4GB Ram running W10 x-64 Pro just fine !!!!!!!!

    MCT could still be broken

Will attempt clean install another method. !! This is on REAL machine not a VM.

    Cheers

Unless I'm reading your picture wrong, you're trying to install on a USB Flash Drive.

Precisely my point! The defaults were acceptable back in the days of small, expensive drives but no more.

I have my User Profiles on my D: drive but you have to be careful to avoid getting duplicate and "orphan" folders all over the place.
My point was that the defaults SHOULD be changed and that when first setting up a system the installation SHOULD look for D: in order to achieve that. But then, I SHOULD win the lottery. It's nice to dream
Exactly, but how many laptops have that extra hard drive internally (very few, if any, are left), and does John Q. Public know or understand what an external hard drive is?

In fact, how many Desktops will have that extra internal hard drive (very few, if any), and does John Q. Public know or understand what an external hard drive is? Does he/she even know how to add an internal hard drive?

Seems to me that both Microsoft and OEMs have just received their wakeup call . . . Are they gonna listen to or ignore it?
