    Just a suggestion. Remove any USB peripheral devices, exception is keyboard/mouse. You could also try shutting the PC OFF and letting it reboot.

    @Superfly

    Hmmm ...TraceLogging would be interesting...
    I didn't find anything about that trace log, but I probably wasn't looking in the right places.

    Why wait for MS? that could take forever... if this is a fix, it can be automated.
    Yea, who knows if/when MS will fix it, just my usual disclaimer when doing registry hacks. I not comfortable automating registry hacks, so I leave that up to the experts :)

    Note:
    1. The way I verified if the TDL key should be there or not, was to check the registry on my Insider Preview (1809-17763.1) for it and I searched for the B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB key ... which I didn't find it all.

    2. I have now deleted the couple of B31118B2-1F49-48E5-B6F5-BC21CAEC56FB keys found under \CLSID when searching the registry and I haven't seen any unwanted side affects (i.e. Event ID's, etc)

    @Stitch194 I'm sure you've seen this tutorial.

    Uninstall Apps in Windows 10

    Note the Tip in the opening section. Doesn't help with clean installs but if you are doing upgrades.
    Ken Thanks! I always uninstall what apps I can after a clean install or when MS forces unwanted apps on me. I'm not a fan of Win 10 apps, other than "The Weather app.

    Laptop? Switching it off could be just hibernating. Rigt Click on Start button (Win sign) and select restart, or if it shows: Restart and apply updates

    I do know this is an error which occurs very often .
    Lots of my friends never look in the eventlogs ( some of them even dont know where to find it in Windows !)
    They are happy coz all works fine ( just like me ) , untill they open the eventlogs, it reduces the fun dramaticly.................

    It just restarts with no apply update prompt.

    Is this coincident, after upgrading to 1809 I lost all my Google contacts ??

    -----------------------------------------

    Maybe not. When my wife's machine upgraded to the last several she lost Hundreds of photo, deleted without warning. I did not want to report because, like in real life, she or I would not be believed. But fortunately she had a backup of most - which actually proves the deletion occurred and without warning. Microsoft, naturally, still operates in the way old school software giants of yore opeated - using FUD, or as I say, the Mushroom theory (keep them in the dark and feed them s..t)

    Although I updated via WU I also nicked the 1809 media creation tool and created bootable thumb drives for my installations plus tucked away a x64 iso just in case.

    OK, just updated to 1809 with very interesting results:
    1) No sound
    2) My internet connection goes down every 5 minutes (the notorious “Default gateway is not available” issue), and the only way to fix it is to reset the wireless router, and
    3) "Permission to use windows shell experience" has not been fixed as promised
