My Laptop had 2 recovery partitions for a while and today I decided to go back to 1803 from 1809. I had 5 partitions:
    1) Old Recovery 2)UEFI 3)MSR 4) C: 5) Active Recovery.

I used a Macrium image of 1803 and booted with the Macrium rescue USB.

In the restore window I deleted all partitions on the target drive and then dragged 3 of my image partitions to the target in this order. 1)UEFI 2)MSR 3)C: and left the rest 1.2GB unallocated for future use in case 1809 decides it wants a recovery partition when I update in the future. Restore took 16 min and I now have a clean looking Laptop on 1803 and no recovery partitions.

All is well. Love me some Macrium.

One minor hitch with that, although good idea. The upgrade will usually snatch a piece off the end of your existing OS partition to make a new one. Doesn't seem to matter it's got a big hole right next door to use. More Windows Magic!

While to my knowledge I've not lost any files since the update I have seen weird behavior from Excel 2016 Pro in that it locked up on me sending the file I was working on to recovery mode without losing anything. I've also had multiple instances of my nvidia graphics driver acting up, I was running an older version and have since updated to the latest version which hasn't registered a problem since yesterday.

And, let's not forget: Microsoft OneDrive includes a folder called Recycle Bin. Everything you delete (accidentally or on purpose) will be stored there for 30 days, and can be restored with two mouse clicks. Me losing my data would mean that I would not notice that my files are gone in 30 days.
That is where I went wrong. I copied from OneDrive to NAS as extra backup and didn't realize I was copying files that were the same size and name but full of NUL about 20% of the time. Then I decided to replace OneDrive contents with my backup (I only have 30GB per account so it was a cleanup). It wasn't for months until I noticed that many files were useless. Luckily I had most on an old Macruim backup but it was an effort to get them back and some I lost for good.

We all make mistakes. I'm not saying you would do it but I did. I don't think I will again (hopefully I learn) but it is possible to make an error even with the best plan in mind.

To those people who got the update and haven't yet lost files or maybe use hibernate mode, beware there are reports of people who only lost files a day later after the next full reboot. There was a post earlier in this thread that might confirm this about profiles being incorrectly set to delete at the next reboot.
I have Macrium backups of both my OS and my files. If need be, I'll go all the way back to before 10/1 to restore.

I've done a few reboots, and so far haven't lost anything, but everything is backed up on disconnected external drives if something comes to worst, but so far so good on all my 1809 based systems

This is about the same for me, no lost files and numerous reboots. Also have Macrium images containing my files. Will probably look at clean installing with the updated/fixed MCT though just to cover all basis.

Already Clean Installed myself with the ISO From the Media Creation Tool on the 2nd there, but who knows might clean install again in the future one more time, though that's more writes to my boot SSD, so maybe not if all running fine, guess will see at this point

My in place (using the media tool) upgrade has been fine...i had to adjust my volume back to maximum and increase the brightness to 100% (for some reason, the battery power dimmer has been put on even though i use my laptop on A/C....

My files and apps are all intact...Only strange behavior is every time i open my Windows Mail, even though i maximized it...it keeps going back to minimum size and i have to maximize it again...

Otherwise, smooth and fast....and working fine....I don't see any reason to downgrade at this point...

How do we know if we have missing files, is my question? My computers seem to be operating fine.
