Haven't had to do that in ages in any of my ISO's? MCT or Visual Studio. If I click "I don't have one" when prompted for a key I get the full list of Editions to install. If your not getting asked for a product key there must be an OEM embedded key in the BIOS or something?
Hi the problem was because this was HOME edition (not activated) and I was trying to upgrade it asked for product key but there was no option to say "I don't have one" and the NEXT bar wa grayed out.

Was quicker just to download from the iso I already had downloaded via UUPDump.

    Cheers

I wonder how many people have experienced this data loss bug.

I have a very strong suspicion it has been blow out of mega proportion.

I looked on feedback hub and could only find a few examples (less than 10 for sure) but more importantly, you see similar reports on earlier builds i e. crap happens on any build.

If this is a rare bug as I suspect it is, it could take an eternity for MS to find a solution.

It is funny how people always jump on the "MS should do more testing bandwagon" totally failing to understand that they could probably test OS for a year or more (even ten years) and still not find the bug.

Sometimes, obscure bugs are only deyected when the product is being used by MILLIONS of people.

However rectifying it may be extremely difficult if the MS developers are unable to reproduce conditions that cause the bug.

I think far more people by orders of magnitude have lost data because the upgrade crapped out.

So has anybody on TF lost data?

    Hi folks

Separation of OS and Data is absolutely necessary IMO.

Like Cereberus I have a load of multi-media etc stuff on NAS -- this type of data I only store temporarily on Windows and it gets copied to NAS daily -- not much of that type of data but it's there !!

The NAS Data that's changed gets offloaded also to external HDD so I have 2 copies - NAS and backup HDD. Archiving data etc is totally different from system image restores -- also those that have large disks with a single large partition will certainly lose data if you need to do a system restore -- I know loads of people have music collections etc - a lot of these can't be re-created via online retrieval especially if ripped from CD's or obtained "from other sources".

Small work data such as the odd spread sheet OK can be saved on cloud servers like One Drive - don't have an issue with that but I'd hate to lose several TB of video and music.

Backing up say a whole 3 TB of data at 114 MB/s (approx. 450 Mb/s) regularly would take a long time and isn't necessary !!!!!!!! and lots of people have slower disks than that too. The entire data only needed to be backed up ionce nitially (a long time ago) - so long as you have 2 copies on different media you are fine. I only have a trivial amount of new data daily these days if any at all.

As for losing data with 1809 - can't say I ever experienced that problem --in fact on the whole 1809 ran fine -- the only thing (after the Macrium problem which was fixed (Thanks guys at Macrium) quickly enough I can't create aby any means any Windows to Go versions that work with 1809 -- works fine with 1803 -- something possibly about boot file compression or something weird in boot manager ??.

    Cheers

I didn't lose any data this time around. I don't sysnc my user files to Onedrive. I only put stuff in my public folder to post links to on forums etc. Pictures mostly.
I got hit by the second drive changed to RAW a while back. That wiped out all my user folders that I had moved there. It was all backed up. Took most of the day to copy it all back though.
I prefer to do clean installs. More often than not an upgrade, for me anayway, ends up with glitches and or other wierdness that nesesitates a clean install anyway.

I have mostly my data also seperate: Mostly games and vids and pics and LOTS of MP3s on external HDDs connected to my pc.The only major thing what happened was the loss of 120GB of music few years ago but I managed to save it via a recovery program. Most of the songs rescued are still corrupted though...

My brand new RS5 looks and feels very good , will wait with going back to RS4 , for now.
    Tested all functions severely , printer, webcam , DVD-playing, burning CD/DVD , IE11/Edge , Office 2016 , email , etc.etc.
All fine , no problems at all !!
Only few things left ; hovering with mouse in right-click menu is grey ( in RS4 ; light-blue) . Can not get this back again.............( setting ImersiveContextMenu=0 , does not work !!)
And one warning in Eventviewer after every reboot ; id=219(212) , no idea to remove it ..........

I have clean installed 1809 on my machine (works fine), but have seen two older laptops with local accounts (no OneDrive access) that were *upgraded* via WU and both seems to be fine too.
