No where did they force you to acknowledge you had a backup before starting.

This 'loss of files' thing must be due to a certain type of system configuration or software conflict. I have 10 PCs loaded with 1809, none of them are new (some are circa 2007) but ALL upgraded without issues or data loss. For the records, most were upgraded via Windows Update but one machine refused to find it this way and I used the online 'update this PC' tool for this one.

I have to add that 1809 does feel 'snappier' in use than 1803. All of which means that I actually approve of this version but I realise I may be alone....

It;s a bit old. That's after an upgrade from Windows 7.

    Just FYI everyone:

It doesn't seem to matter if your personal files are on your OS drive, or a secondary drive, or another partition....or even if they are stored on another drive *without* pointing to them with the OS - people have lost their files in all these situations.

Windows 1809 update wiped my documents : Windows10

Some are saying it may have something to do with OneDrive, but nothing sure.
Microsoft is getting royally raked over the coals, that's for sure.

I have 5 computers with the new system on them. I do have all backed up before any changes were made. I have no issues with any of them and have no loss of files/folders. Maybe I’m just lucky. See several others reporting absence of file loss or other problems.

Neither do I. I always, always do an MR backup before I install anything from MS.

Some think it may have something to do with Files On Demand?

There is improved performance in the GDI by around 25%. Makes a big difference in desktop performance IME. Spectre patches had knocked this performance down significantly but now, the performance exceeds pre-Spectre.
