I downloaded the Windows upgrade Assistant and it downloaded and installed the update with no problems So i dont know why the update had so much trouble in the 1st place.
Personally I found the 1803 initial release was the worst one by far, being rushed out on the last day of April in order to justify its 'April 2018' name. There was too much 'Insider' code left in it, IMHO it wasn't really ready for release until 17134.112.
Of the four machines I've updated, for only one have I felt the need to restore its 1803 Macrium image - and that was down to an obscure bug in the Hyper-V network switch that caused problems for the host machine when writing to (but not reading from) network shares on other physical machines. Oddly enough, it had no problem with shares on VMs.
For the other three machines this initial release seems to have less bugs than most previous ones, so I'm staying on 1809.
