Yeah Chinese invented many things but they never really exported them to the world. The old British Empire reinvented the wheel in many cases and exported such things. Tradition is fine but in UK, regrettably these things (even XMAS) have been over commercialised. Already we are getting XMAS songs in supermarkets!
Snip & Sketch has one function that's a big improvement over the Snipping Tool - the maximum delay available is doubled to 10 seconds. Useful when trying to snip the Start menu. But 1809 still has the snipping tool too, albeit now with a notice that it will removed in a later version.New snipping tool doesn't have the ease and functionality of the current one ... all I want is a quick easy clean screen capture like the current snipping tool has.
However, the old 1803 snipping tool can easily be copied and used in later versions, I explained how here...

Although I do not like the interface of snip&sketch, its 10 second delay is a good change - 5 second was barely enough.
Also, I find the way you can quickly open image in Paint is good - no longer having to save to clipboard, open Paint, paste in etc
What I do is use S&S to capture picture, then use Paint to edit. Then if I screw up edit (as we all do :-D), I simply go back to S&S and reopen in Paint without having to resnip picture.
It allows multiple instances which I find useful as sometimes you want to add extra annotation.
The main thing that annoys me is the start screen is far to intrusive - just a start bar would be nice.
Having used it a lot, I would not go back to snipping tool.
It's one slight weakness is it only saves as .png, but you can open image in paint and save as .jpg etc.
I would like to see Paint and S&S integrated as one tool.
I think MS have backed off from Paint 3D, as it is not popular. Sure there are more sophisticated tools than good old Paint, but for simple annotation, Paint is easy, and familiar.
...or if you want a snip of Snip & Sketch itself

Hi there
@loquacious
If you do regular backups you could have restored 1809 to new mobo -- it might take a couple of re-boots for new hardware but in general you CAN restore to different hardware even with the free version of Macrium. Activating might be another issue but presumably insider versions only have limited life anyway so should work.
I think also you can still get 1809 insider via UUPDUMP and then install manually.
I know the "If you had ..." sounds a bit like "I should have bet on Horse nr 3 last friday at Race ... " however advice given so you can prepare for next time -- always worth while taking regular backups of the OS - especially as the products to do this are free and simple to use.

Well yeah, this Skippy is on third machine now, two were on same type MB but one had to be replaced thru RMA. I had them connected to internet by wire when switching disks. I first case, going from Gigabyte FX 6350 system to Asus x370 system it took couple of starts in safe mode and than everything worked. x370 chipset to x470 (both Asus) no hitch at all. Multiple changes of RAM, 3 changes of CPUs and few SSDs was no problem at all. Only MB counts. All installed with MS account though so no activation trouble either.
I've already updated Win10 Pro v1809 to build 17763.107 on one computer (using UUPDUMP) and seems to be working well
I won't be surprised if MS re-releases it on Halloween (or not)![]()
