They are "user selectable". I have an install of Windows 10 Home 1809 here with no Candy Crush, March of Empires, Bubble Witch, etc. And, no - I didn't remove them after W10 was installed.
Just don't have your computer connected to the Internet when installing Windows 10. No matter how much it insists (especially 1809 which also has a 2 to 3 minute "pause" after the 2nd reboot during the install where it is presumably looking for an Internet connection).
I only let Windows 10 connect to the Internet after I have all of my drivers (from the manufacturers websites) installed and all my privacy settings, etc. 'tweaked'. I also turn off and remove all the tiles from the Start Menu (not sure if this is also needed to stop Candy Crush and its ilk from installing but I don't like or want the tiles anyway).
In fact, I have always considered not allowing a computer Internet access during any operating system install to be a good idea, not just for Windows 10.

in theory OK but if there are a lot of updates needed (e.g in some Linux distros where a new iso is only issued after longish intervals) the updates done post install can potentially break your shiny new OS !!!. In Windows can also happen as post install updates may break specialized drivers etc etc. At install on an exiting system (update) with Windows connected to the internet the update is reasonably sophisticated - it checks post and pre-requisite fixes before automatically updating them and will often leave custom drivers alone -- Also a lot of regression testing / checking can be done at install time --much more difficult to do post install.
it's a pity the standard Windows update mechanism isn't nearly so sophisticated !!!
However the idea is fine - especially if you want to only use a local account rather than an Ms account.
I know for multi installs (at SME level) you can sysprep using a reference system but that is rather outside the skill set of typical home type users. My beef is still that using the bog standard install techniques all this extra stuff should be prompted for with say some sort of software selection at OS Install time. If people are unhappy with choosing they can just stick to the bog standard default option which would work as current.

In the UK, it is just a pathetic marketing scam to sell cheap crap from shops and for pubs to act like St Guinness Day.
We have Guy Fawkes Day near same day - much nicer event (apart from efforts Health and Safety Nazis who work so hard to emasculate any organised display that public can only view them from ten miles away now!).
How true.

Sadly most of the fireworks in the small villages around here have died a health and safety death, going to one on Friday though with my camera.

Keep fireworks for New Year and special occasions -- not sure why one would have any around November - must be the most miserable month in the year - nothing special in it and the full onslaught of Winter to come !!!! - and please keep all us Non US people a universe away from that most hideous of days "Black Friday" !!!! We don't all rush to shops like lemmings to the sea.
Why on Earth would UK people celebrate a Failed exercise -- I believe wasn't Parliament supposed to have been blown up in November -- if successful then what a great way to celebrate !! That would merit decent firework display.
Back to topic -- anybody got any decent info or even reliable rumours on next / final Windows build(s) to appear. I've got bored with 1809 - I can't find anything new to break in it !!!!

Who do you think really invented firework displays? It is part of our heritage - the original idea being to show people that democracy is important.
Halloween's roots may be from Salem witch trials but nobody in UK really knows anything about that - the whole "Trick or treat" philosophy was abused beyond just harmless fun. We used to get gangs of teenagers who would go round houses and splatter cars/windows with eggs or bodily waste, dump rubbish over garden etc if you did not give them at least a fiver. It was basically extortion.
Fortunately, now Halloween is now seen primarily as a kiddies event and just a bit of fun between young friends which is fine, providing the tricks are fun and do not cause distress.
Fortunately, no self respecting teenager gets involved it any more as they get the urine extracted from them by other teenagers.
The other main difference from years ago is that parents usually accompany the children now and they only go around friends' houses (people really wised up to foolishness of letting children going to strangers' houses unaccompanied fortunately).

Halloween can be tracked back to Ireland and the Druid religion. The Druids New Year was Nov. 1 and the celebration started Oct. 31.
Others believe it started because of the Celtic harvest festivals. Whichever you want to believe, it was started in your part of the world, long before tha Salem Witch trials.

Anyway, here in Serbia there is something similar for same day. "Day of the dead" or "Kalede" and it hails from before Christianity. People and kids dress up in all kinds of scary costumes, go around the place from door to door and asking for sweets and treats. Leader is dressed as death and can throw hex on stingy home owners. There are even lanterns from carved pumpkins. Here, being Serbia, it can't go without a lot of drinking and singing and shooting in the air of course.
If that doesn't look like classical Halloween, I don't know what does.

I think it all started from some type of religious festival.
The English word Halloween is actually derived from "All Hallows Eve" where the "Hallows" were the religious Saints and having a feast on the eve (or day before) All Saints would be an excuse to release / pray for all the spirits etc etc.
Across much of Europe and elsewhere tomorrow Nov 1 is a public Holiday -- All saints day.
Of course commercial enterprises being what they are - a marketing opportunity mustn't go amiss at any price hence costumes, eateries, fireworks etc etc.
Fireworks were invented of course by the Chinese -- I don't know how many moons ago - but a long time --they've been used in countless celebrations at any time of the year -- I believe G.F Handel wrote his famous "Fireworks Music" to accompany a firework display in London : Music for the Royal Fireworks is a group of five pieces for orchestra composed by George Frideric Handel in 1749. He was asked by King George II to write the music because the king wanted some music and fireworks to celebrate the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle. (I think these days the town is known as AACHEN on the German border - who knows what the treaty was about !!).
Shows they can and were used for almost every conceivable bit of commemoration -- just not for spirits and things like failing to blow up Parliament etc. !!!!!

I had 1809 and it worked very well, but when I updated my motherboard, I had to reinstall windows and now only have 1803. Is there any way to get back to 1809?
