Windows 10 October 2018 Update rollout now paused

I still think MR is the best backup software, but yes it does fail. In the past month, I have had 2 VSS failures and then one Code 9 error. The VSS errors were somewhat easy to fix, but the Code 9 error I found out that Macrium had a patch just for that particular error. I am guessing that if it does not affect you, you don't have to do the patch??
I have never had any errors prior to these last 3
I just checked my log. I went back, all the way to December 2017, and haven't had a single error on my desktop. This is very likely, because I do a backup at 1 am, when the PC has been sitting there for about an hour doing nothing. Everything is just properly shut down and prepared for the backup by MR.
I have had a few errors with my laptop, but those were often because something wasn't ready yet for MR to be run, but I wasn't paying attention when my laptop started. All my backups are on a schedule, and now and then, MR starts while Windows is still loading stuff. I need to delay those backups for 30 minutes, or it ends with an error.

I've not had the problem on W10 but in W7 Trusted Installer runs for ages after an update. I've had problems with MR if I try to do an image while that's running.

Judging by the amount of time passed and lack of communication I wonder if they're having an internal review of the whole windows as a service thing.

Lack of communication, indeed! It has now been over 3 weeks since the upgrade was 'paused'. We have no solid information as to what MS is actually doing, no sense of a plan, no sense of any timeline. Any other company the size of MS would be issuing daily press releases. Even if there's nothing new and exciting to report, at least let us know that you're alive.
Instead they just clam up and let the rumors (rumours for you, swarfega) swirl. This is gross mismanagement, IMO.

It wouldn't be detrimental to just release latest Skippy as final and be done with it.

It's deja-vu all over again. 1803 had its 'blocking bug' that was never fully explained, then was rushed out half-finished on the last day of the month to justify its 'April' name-tag. In comparison, apart from the one big (but fortunately rare) bug 1809 seems more 'polished'. Still, some news from MS would be nice - even if it's just 'wait a bit, we're still working on it'.
-
At this point any news would be benefitcial, right now the silence is like deafening--no idea if there working on the fixes, no idea if there is any sort of concrete plan at all at this point.
-
What I don't understand is why MS would issue a warning after the initial release of 1809 "If you received this update don't download it" This doesn't help the average users that lost data, aren't updates downloaded and installed when a PC is idle.
What were they thinking? Am I missing something.

It will be a Halloween bundle. "Trick or Treat" release.
MS 1809 Fast Ring Oct 31st, 2018

Interesting idea, but the environmental officers would have a field day. Many years ago we could have a bonfire with a figure in my father's old clothes, and masks could be readily bought at small local shops. (I can just remember 'penny for the guy' as some young kids had a guy on the street).
Then they banned bonfires (atmospheric pollution- clean air act...).
You might get away with images of Satya Nadella...
