    Oh, stability...buhahah

It was more like 10000% stable to run Linux than Windows back in the day. At least on my hardware. Never had any issues on Linux.
    Hi there

    @slicendice

some Linux distros you can run for months or even years 24/7 without ever having to re-boot -- even a huge amount of updates don't require a re-boot.

I wonder if anybody has run any sort of Windows 24/7 for say 1 year without a re-boot. !!!!

My problem with say wanting to use Windows as any sort of server type system is that sooner or later updates necessitate a re-boot which can also take place if you aren't careful - automatically --never mind you might have 5 or 6 VM's being hosted at that time !!!!

    Cheers

Well at least some folks are getting along great with 10.
At best i would call it a hot mess. I don't think anyone should be patting Microsoft on the back for finally creating an OS that doesn't crash every five minutes. I've had to put a lot of work into making Windows 10 somewhat bearable to use and look at every day. Same as every previous version!

Yep. Many years ago I compiled my own Linux distro from scratch, including multiple kernels and containing only the tools I needed. That build was purring along for many years in a row.

The Problem I have is That MSI will not update my BIOS so that it will pass that Intel Microcode Fiasco. Microsoft does need some changing in the way that they do things. When I was in The Insider Group I would post bugs and they would ask for My Email Addy and a screenshot, which I supplied and no one, no one, ever got back to me about anything even though they asked many times. Now I read that this loss of Data was reported 3 months ago to The Hub and ignored. If MS is not going to look at the data then why have it? I tested Windows 7 and Office products through Connect and the process was a great deal better.

I ran My Windows 7 Pro system for more than 18 months without a reboot. It's my home Apache server used for my family's web site. I only rebooted it to update Apache.

I often run my Windows 10 Pro system (this one) for 2-3 weeks without a reboot. I've had one BSOD and it was due to defective RAM.

That would leave 50%+ of the world out of it. Only in most advanced countries with most advanced Internet and financial system that could be achieved.
It would only get rid of riffraff like ordinary users and small businesses.

I suspect the type of customer MS likes (giant corporations) have Internet regardless of the country.

HA ! Used to be but my Mint went belly up twice in last year although it's used only 10% of the time and my Insider Fast /Skippy are running since beginning.
Stability issues most certainly must be caused by some fancy stuff they do in Mint then.
The only time I had major issue with Linux Mint was when I foolishly decided to try out Compiz.
It messed up my install so badly that after a cursory attempt to repair it, I gave up and restored it using my backup image.

One of my Linux Mint VMs freaked out after a failed CUPS update.
The Update Manager broke and it took a bit of fiddling to fix it.

Rock Solid? I have NEVER gotten a Black Screen or BSOD in Linux. In Windows they are a way of life. I also do not use Mint. Windows 10 is by far the Best Windows ever released but it is far from being Rock Solid unless you are running it on the latest Hardware.
Yes, a properly configured Linux distribution works stable for years in a row and have same performance as it had right after boot.

I've never seen a BSOD or similar on the official Windows 10 releases. I'm running on 7-8 years old hardware and also 3-4 years old hardware. But there are some glitches though. It's typical Windows stuff and can only be fixed by rewriting the whole OS from scratch and forgetting about backwards compatibility.
I had a couple of BSODs on my W7 install at the end of last year.

The error details were different each time so I couldn't identify the culprit.
I didn't make any changes and they haven't happened since.
I suspect that Avast or Nielsen software was responsible (since they regularly auto-update).

I've only had a couple of BSODs in W10.
Since I disconnected my W10 1703 Pro VM and W10 1703 Home Laptop from our network, they've run flawlessly.

As far as I'm concerned, that shows that the biggest impediment to having a "rock solid" W10 install is MS itself.

I suspect the reason that Education and Enterprise seem to be best versions of W10 is that they aren't forced to install the garbage code the MS spews out.

I have to agree with @Josey Wales Rock solid here too. 2 older Dell Optiplex Desktops, one Inspiron Laptop.
I've never had any major issues since upgrading from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. I don't believe in tinkering with any OS settings other than the initial set up, Language, Region Time/Date...Windows 10 doesn't seem to take lightly to user changes, it's like a chain, no beginning, no end, the end is the beginning. Remove one link and MS will give you a difficult time repairing.

@ lehnerus2000 said "I suspect the reason that Education and Enterprise seem to be best versions of W10" I agree and how many Institutions or Corporations many users are allowed access to tinkering, other than resident IT dept. none. Basically the OS remains unchanged from Windows versions.

Most Changes i've made over the many months i've been using Windows 10 is removable of Avast, Try Defender again, reinstall Avast, decide to stick to Defender, then back to Avast a few weeks later, I have to stop doing that, so far no ill effects thankfully, sfc /scannow fine, dism fine, i just have to pick 1 and stick with it permently on all systems
