Should have just kept Windows 7 updated it and just called it Windows. We don't need another souped of version of Android!
Knowing a lot of you also use Linux(on hardware as well as VMs), and nothing going on here in the thread right now, how about reading this from Phoronix: Windows 10 October 2018 Update Performance Against Ubuntu 18.10, Fedora 29
Of all the benchmarks ran on this Intel Core i7 8086K + ASUS Z370-A + MSI Radeon RX 580 box, Windows 10 came in first about 10% of the time but it ended up being in last place about 50% of the time. The Linux distribution with the most wins was Intel's own Clear Linux (25550 build) with coming in first 40% of the time granted with some of those wins it was a very narrow victory. Tied for second were Debian 9.5 and Manjaro 18.0 with wins each about 16% of the time. It was interesting to note that only once Ubuntu 18.10 was in first compared to four wins with the older Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS release.
Hi folks
Win ver 1809 with latest updates now showing version 17763.55
This time it also installed Net 3.5 which failed before with 1809 and networking seems fine. I need net 3.5 for some legacy stuff -- every time I tried to install it before with 1809 it failed.
No probs with losing files etc
Not sure what the official current release number is but I did an upgrade from 1803 (with latest fixes so that was .345 ver) and no probs whatsoever. I used UUP DUMP site to create ISO and installed from that one.
@Cliff S -- you can't really compare reasonably performance of Linux vs Windows sensibly -- different systems for different tasks -- also since around 85% of users are doing "Officy type stuff" where they are creating documents, making presentations, doing email etc where the major time is people sitting and thinking rather than the computer actually doing anything is a bit like asking economists about a country's "productivity" where most of the work is either in event driven processes (hence unpredictable) or in services such as musicians etc -- Ask one of these "productivity experts" --how do you measure productivity of an Opera singer or a musical group at a gig --maybe take a leaf from the excellent film about the life of Mozart --Amadeus the film was called where the young Mozart had to prepare an opera for the court musician at the time (Salieri) -- his comment was "Too many notes " !!!. History shows Mozart was correct -- how many people have even heard of Salieri these days/.
