OK, starting with my 1803 with the mcupdateAuthenticIntel.dll removed (to maintain overclocking) I updated to 1809 with the MCT ISO. I removed the mcupdateAuthenticIntel.dll from 1809. After a while WU got the 4330 update. Having no problems currently after a day or so.
And the SpeculationControl settings with PowerShell are the same with and without the mcupdate, but without it I get my overclocking.
OneDrive has nothing to do with this 1809 fiasco.
I have followed this circus almost 24/7 since last Friday night Central European Time. Some facts:
- Microsoft claims that only 0.01% of users were affected, or as Windows Insider blog says (read more) "one one-hundredth of one percent". In other words, that would mean that only 100 users out of 1,000,000 would have been affected. As we know now, that is absolutely not true, the real number being much (I repeat: MUCH!) higher.
- Microsoft is claiming the issue was caused by KFR, and only affected users who had relocated some user profile folders or were using OneDrive. As we know now, this is not true. Users who have used default Windows preinstalled on their systems, who have never relocated any user profile folders, never made any changes in Windows default settings, users who have never used OneDrive nor had any Microsoft accounts were also affected.
- Microsoft and especially their Windows Insider team are doing whatever they can to downplay this whole episode. Insider team social media accounts have been cleaned, for instance several tweets have been removed.
- One explanation given is that although there is feedback as old as almost four months in Feedback Hub about RS5 Insider preview upgrades deleting user data, those feedback had so few upvotes Insider team did not catch them. This at the same time when they launched a campaign to show "each feedback matters" by thanking various individual Insiders for their feedback with one or two upvotes that had made them to fix an issue. Here's a few examples about what I am talking about:

What Microsoft, Windows Insider team and especially its team lead Dona Sarkar will never admit (I repeat: NEVER!) is that to skip Release Preview ring and go directly to GA (General Availability) was a wrong decision. Ignite 2018 was going on in Orlando, Florida, someone just decided that it would be "cool" to release GA build from there, the biggest of MS yearly conferences.
This decision caused them to miss the opportunity to get last minute feedback about missing personal files. That Release Preview ring insiders had lost some data is acceptable; we all Insiders accept that risk when using Insider Preview builds. But Skipping that last step of checking things out is the main reason this fiasco happened.
What amazes me most is that they not only did it on purpose, but also admit it. I mean, I believe and have had confirmation to that belief from sources much closer to MS than I can ever be, that original plan was to announce Release Preview Ring availability from Ignite 2018 on October 2nd, then the GA a week or two later. Anyway, team got over anxious and changed the plan.

Whatever the real reason is that so many users lost their data, it has nothing to with OneDrive, and apoparently it has nothing to do with relocated or moved user profile folders.

HP Laptop issue--Sound lost after Cumulative Patch 17763.55, Sound was working fine before that, tomorrow i'll try reinstalling the driver possibly, Desktop running fine though. If need be i guess i'll downgrade lappy to 1803, but i do like 1809 performance or did before this issue
Ever since installing version 1809 via windows update MS EGDE is acting strange. If for instance I open EDGE, and then input Yahoo.com Yahoo will open, but I cannot follow any link. I get waiting for response which times out or I get no response at all. If I try to go back to Bing I need to close EDGE, and reopen. Google Chrome is working fine any thoughts ?
@Josey Wales I agree. I have no problems on 5 computers—no loss of files, speed or anything else I can identify. And, I use onedrive and all 5 computers are networked. And I installed all of these on day one of roll out (Oct 2)
