Take a Macrium Reflect image of your system, apply the fix. Any issues, restore.

Not sure how old your Lenovo is but most vendors do not maintain drivers long after production stops.

Bet your drivers are labelled Intel and not Lenovo in device manager today.

Just so you know I updated, no issues.... but I had an MR Image to fall back on.
Macrium Reflect does a full backup every Sunday morning and differential backups every other morning of the week.

Drivers: I hadn't thought of that, but it's logical.

My Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 4 14" (fairly new) updated without issues too, Ken. Since the Lost Files Fiasco, although she's not a "production" machine and updated to 1809 from the Fast Ring, I have shut her down and won't restart until Microsoft gives us some answers or solutions.

I will shut this desktop down before I leave for a genealogy meeting so she can't update without my permission either!

Good article. Come to think of it. I've never seen a business, store or school running windows 10 (at least in my local area). I don't think any reputable firm would run it. In fact I've never seen any that ran Windows 8. Windows 7 was the last serious operating system and everywhere still appears to be on that. At least it could be trusted not to do unpredicatable things. Every CU or feature update feels like playing russian roulette with Windows 10 and the 'modern' app mantra is a joke, they break too easily.
For stability and reliability; most, if not all businesses and institutions here are also running Windows 7.

Hopefully Microsoft will release a new update to fix these issues with 1809 today.

Hahahaha! I fall in that category. I am running 1809 and had no problems....because I wore my friggin tinfoil hat....with the chin strap fastened securely! I would not use Onedrive, or even allow it to remain on my system at all...or System Restore, or Defender, or Cortana, or....on and on and on. I would never even put any file of mine in any premade Windows folder (My documents, Videos, Music, none of them).

I would never do an "upgrade" to any Windows OS, ever. Always clean format and install. I would never install any Windows with any drive other than the one Windows is being installed on even connected to my motherboard. I remove them completely, and partition the new Windows drive before booting the install media. Too many times Windows has borked a drive (a backup storage drive) that should not have been touched, at the least, it tends to like to slap a bunch of boot files onto the second drive instead of the Windows drive where they belong, then if you ever remove/format the second drive...poof, no more Windows on the main drive.

I never leave any file I don't want to lose on a Windows partition. They get created or moved to a working/backup drive the second it is possible to do so. A Windows partition, to me, is just a temporary swap space to work on and then GTFO of as soon as possible. And a complete backup image is always ready to be restored in case...whatever...virus, bad update or driver, etc. I doubt Windows ever survives more than a week on my drive without a backup restore for one reason or another. So I always have a 'brand new' clean install.

Anything Microsoft / Windows is stupid as @#$%, and it needs to be treated as such.
I sell premade tinfoil hats in bulk . . . you may order them at TinfoilHatsForSkeptics.C3PO

After reading your missive, it makes me wonder why you would contaminate your computer with such as Windows 10.

Hi CountMike , may I ask you if you can use the Classic Context Menu ( selected items in contextmenu are blue , instead of grey )
The key " ImmersiveContextMenu=0 " does not work on my new 1809 , so I wonder if a "clean install" will fix it..........??
Please spend a moment to upvote this : Windows10

It seems that the registry tweak doesn't work on 1809. I've just applied it myself on 1803 and there's no way i'm updating if i have to go back to the Grey-on-Grey.

I can't even think of the specific time when the context menus changed. In the back of my mind it was like something wasn't right. I'd started noticing more and more that i wasn't seeing my chosen highlight colour as much as i thought i should be. It didn't occur to me that it was a deliberate change, rather than say, a bug!

What genius thought Grey-on-Grey was a good idea, and why let users select highlights in they're not applied in the obvious places? And then to remove the only method of reverting...? It makes my blood boil!

Along with the other 1809 bugs (ever increasing Chrome window size when exiting fullscreen video/Event Viewer errors up the wazoo/disappearing files), there's no way i'm updating again any time soon. Rolled back to 1803 and disabled updates.

Hi Dirk Gently , thanks for your reaction , did you clean install or just upgrade ( I upgraded ) ? Asking coz a clean install maybe resolved the colour in contextmenu , Im not sure.......
Indeed , no way to get our nice-looking contextmenu back , small chance they will restore it by updates.........
I really do wonder why MS always has to remove nice things , the way we want it..............

Me too, from further back than that. I started by upgrading from OEM Win7 to 1507 then every subsequent update up to and including 1809.

A clean install would be a disaster for me. I have amongst other things some OEM-installed Office apps that are impossible to reinstall. Their keys show each app was individually installed, but you can't get stand-alone installers for Word, Excel, etc. any more - just the Office suite for which these keys won't work.
Hi Bree, When you say you've just upgraded right through all the way to1809...as far as all the Windows 10 new builds go..do you mean you've just installed them as soon as they've been pushed to you through Windows Updates?
That's what Ive always done but this time I had 1809 pushed to me on the first day and as we now know its been problematic. I only have one laptop and its Windows 10 Home edition. Is there any way you can defer a new build installation for a couple of weeks once you get the message that its ready and a restart is required?

I didn't spend long on 1809 and had already restored my 1803 image before reading the Reddit post that i linked before. I hope i'm wrong but i don't think a clean install will resolve the issue. I'm waiting for more feedback to find out. The Reddit thread does have a developer posting that he would look into it, so maybe there's hope.

The decision to remove highlight colour and go with Grey-on-Grey was an absolutely terrible decision to begin with, and MS should feel ashamed. Now that i've applied the tweak myself, i'm really enjoying the improved appearance. Having colour in the context menus is so much nicer!

" Having colour in the context menus is so much nicer! "............agree, for sure !
Its one of the few things which did not work out in 1809 , so its not worth going back to 1803 , instead will search for a solution .
Strange , how few people response, seemed to work by other people ..............??
