And then there's the caveat faced by at least one person . . . I think she had her files on D:\ drive and they disappeared.
Exactly If you've just changed the location of your user folders, Windows still knows where the files are, and can delete them regardless of the location.

    Hi there

Try French (Belgium for example 70 is different to 70 in French, Flemish has different words to Dutch, Afrikaans has different words to both, Icelandic based on Old Norse has diverged differently, Mexican spanish different to catalan, brazilian portuguese different to Lisbon Portuguese etc.

It would be impossible to have a totally 100% unified language --different customs, traditions etc etc -- not possible sometimes to even explain to other cultures a meaning of a local event etc.

In any case would we really want a bland universal language "Robotese" for example.

    Cheers

Now if you want insane - try Danish counting.

A couple of years ago, I became Nine and Half Three (Twenties implied) years old using literal translation from Danish.

    That is obvious isn't it i.e. 9 + (3-0.5)*20

The rest of Scandinavia would use

    9 + five tens (9 plus fifty).

Just trying to make myself understood, TC. Finally figured out how, I think.

As a f'r instance, we have one Guru who won't update to 1809 for a couple or three months. What if that guru's system is one that 1809 deletes personal files from?

The guru decides everything's hunky dory once more, and at that point chooses to update to 1809. If the offending code hasn't been deleted . . . Whoops! All personal files are gone!
In 3 months, if MS hasn't fixed the issue, there won't be any update to do.

I pay my bills online so I don't use checks either. However older people like my relatives only use checks. They are over paranoid and don't trust anything online.
I resemble that remark - now 83 going on 84, consider myself "older" like your relatives and I pay everything I can online - using credit card, bank, PayPal! However I do keep my cash under the mattress - lol.

Which brings up another way of thinking . . .

When I set the extra hard drive in my desktop, I named it Data, not User. Could that be a reason I didn't get my files disappeared? Just a wild guess . . .

    Famous last words from 2016.

    Customer:
"Latest windows 10 update caused loss of all settings, all documents, all pics, and all emails"

    Microsoft:
"I would like to inform you that there is no possibility that an update causes loss of data or files. In Windows 10, your device is always kept up to date with the latest features and fixes. Updates and drivers are installed automatically, with no need to select which updates are needed or not needed. In rare cases, a specific driver or update might temporarily cause issues with your device in terms of performance. But it will neverwipe your files or pictures or any personal documents. "

    a) They will have fixed the offending code by then, or at least know whether they have or not.

    b) If he's a 'Guru', he will obviously simply back up his personal files beforehand, probably make an image before upgrading, and know how to get back to the status quo ante if anything happens, which he will know instantly upon looking at his \User\guru directory.

    Just a Number

So, uh, yeah. We have the same number system as everybody else, but we say the numbers a bit funny here in Denmark. Swedes and especially Norwegians love to make fun of that.

In case you’re wondering what numbers Denmark is saying it’s:
10 cows, 34 pigs, 52 chickens, 193 eggs, 261 nuts, which he then changes to 371 nuts.

Not even Danes will recognize these numbers the way I wrote them in English, but I was being an extreme pronunciation nazi and writing them almost exactly like they’re said in Danish.

The thing that really confuse our Northern neighbors is that with a number like 52 we don’t say “fifty two” but “two and fifty” which sounds like “two fifty”. And our word for fifty sounds like “half sixty” and 90 sounds like “half fives” and it just goes on like that.

You are allowed to be confused. And Norway had to put up with that for 300 years.
