    KB4100347 reportedly breaks Broadwell-E overclocking

It’s no longer a surprise that some of the software updates are causing more harm than good on certain computers. It looks like Microsoft’s KB4100347 for Windows 10 that fixes a recent Spectre vulnerability is doing more harm than good on systems powered by Broadwell-E processor.

Microsoft released KB4100347 a while ago and the company updates the patch with support for more processors once in a while. This update is basically supposed to provide more mitigations against the Spectre Variant 2 vulnerability but according to reports from Reddit users, this patch has killed the overclocking on Broadwell-E processors.

Should be noted this has also been reported to affect X99's Haswell-E aswell.

    Not my Haswell e 5820K ......

but, it's reported that KB4346084 resolves the issue. Several users report that uninstalling KB4100347 and installing KB4346084 restores the overclocked settings, though it's not clear if the former update actually needs uninstalled—the latter one is supposed to override it.

It seems to affect certain BIOS' and MBs, not the whole X99 spectrum. I have a 5820K too, but I don't overclock. Also, Isn't the KB4346084 Intel update for Skylake and up and not ment for Broadwell/Haswell? All these KB articles and microcodes are really confusing…
