Meaning while we are there trying to figure out what's going on, something is definitely being done with regard to this update (KB4458469) that we don't know of yet. Maybe later on or tomorrow, a second check in the MS Update Catalog won't see a trace of this update.

Here goes if anyone interested. My daughter's latop has been 'shelved' for a while. Can't compete with an infernal iPhone. I've always updated this cheap laptop when I have time between my other three. Specs are roughly Pentium dual core 2.1 GHz, 4 Gig ram and the absolutely useless HDD which is 5400 RPM. After manually installing KB4458469 there is definitely less HDD activity. One up for the motely MS crew

… but not rebooted twice....

Just rebooted and HDD at 100% as expected then dropped down to 1-2% within minutes. Might get my girl interested in Windows yet ...... but won't hold my breath.

I think that MS-cya is pretty common when installing stuff from them. It's not aimed at this particular KB, it's a general "OK, last chance! We're gonna do this now!". Has no bearing on this goofy update.

I just manually installed this update because I got excited about the line saying they fixed the issue with fingerprint readers not working after updating from 1709. My fingerprint sensor still won't work with the latest driver for it from HP (which did work perfectly on 1709...), Windows Hello still just says there's a problem every time I try to set it up. I had to roll back to the older version that's available through Windows Update again to get it to work...
