What's the betting that there'll be another CU this week that overrides this one?
I'm now following this thread as much for its comedy value as anything else whilst awaiting the next one.

Unless Microsoft is planning to mitigate the JET Database vulnerability, I think this will be the last one until the October cumulative update in two weeks or the October feature update. But hey, It's Microsoft so who knows.
a bit off topic but worth posting here since it's as laughable as the amount of cu's microsoft had over the last few weeks.

I saw that one the day it came out; I have plenty of space, but it's worth posting in the proper forum.

Ooops! You're not off topic at all; I didn't realize I where I am/were/wuz! And this is the proper forum!

I haven't seen anyone panicking, VBF; however, I'm not going to stop periodically checking. As someone else said, I install every update as it's released. Not this time, though; both Desktop and Teacher Lappy have bombed out.
Each to their own of course. Maybe panicking was a little strong but let's just say the level of concern over a non-security update is possibly a little excessive.
As I've said, there'll probably be another CU along shortly anyway- in fact I believe next Tuesday is Patch Tuesday, so here we ago again!

It's the second Tuesday, so that will be 9th October.

Sorry - thought it was the first one. Time to relax?

Well, just installed the update manually today (from Catalog + the SSU), no issues so far. I hope this fixes that weird bug with background apps settings and Twitter / Edge (Sometimes you have to restart so you are able to enable toast notifications for Edge and Twitter app, otherwise says they are unsupported browsers... O_O)

Interesting development here: Topic: Help us unravel the Win10 updating Gordian knot @ AskWoody

The following information was given by the Microsoft chat support some minutes ago:

They are aware of the issue with KB4458469. This update is marked internal for causing serious problems for upcoming other updates (RS5?). That’s why it’s not distributed via Windows Update anymore and why it will be replaced with another update very soon. They don’t recommend to download and install manually, but just to wait until the new corrected update will be delivered.

At least that’s what she said.
I ended up manually installing it from the catalogue but am now thinking that may not have been a good idea. I'm not sure whether to keep it or uninstall it...

I still don't have it on either of my 1803 machines, and I think I'll leave well enough alone.

My thinking is that most likely someone failed to turn off the catalog button when they turned off the Windows Update button; thus, it's still available through the catalog. However, since those who got the update don't seem to be having problems . . .

For myself, it must have already been pulled when I got around to checking on Friday evening. I'm still not sure whether I checked Thursday evening.

And nothing anywhere official from MS itself. Woody may be correct, but, again, it's opinion from the author. An official document from MS would be nice in lieu of second-hand chat info. I have it installed, and it will remain until I discover otherwise from MS directly or a Forum Thread/Post quoting MS directly.
