Ghost Recon Wildlands has been growing continually since its launch, adding the Ghost War PVP mode, Xbox One X Enhanced features, missions with special guest stars, and more through a series of free updates. If you’ve waited until now to team up with friends and start hunting the Santa Blanca cartel, you’re in luck, because Ghost Recon Wildlands will be available free to Xbox Live Gold members this weekend.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. PT on Thursday, September 20, you can download Ghost Recon Wildlands from the Microsoft Store and jump straight into Ghost War or start playing the campaign solo or with up to three co-op buddies. All free updates since launch will be active, which means you’ll also be able to hunt the Predator, team up with Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher, and join forces with a few of Rainbow Six Siege’s Operators in the field.
The free weekend lasts until 10:00 a.m. PT on Monday, September 24, and if you want to keep playing once it’s over, you can purchase Ghost Recon Wildlands for 60% off the Standard Edition, or 40% off two newly launched editions: the Year 2 Gold Edition (which includes the Year 2 Pass, granting one-week early access to all six Year 2 Ghost War classes, along with special equipment packs) and Ultimate Edition (including the Year 2 Pass and Season Pass Year 1 – which includes the Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts expansions – along with additional perks, weapons, and gear).
The sale runs until Monday, October 1, so move fast – and in the meantime, grab some friends and start exploring one of the biggest open worlds on Xbox One in Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Wildlands is so darn repetitive, extremely shallow with a big empty world, bad story, bad voice acting, and poor performance. Other than the occasional fun with friends co-op and the OK presentation, Ubisoft often releases this game as a free trial just to get people hooked on their live service, which isn't even that good to begin with. I swear, starting this game will get you bombarded with pop-ups and ads wanting you to buy their game and opt-into their services. At least that was what happened last time I played it... No thanks Ubi. Even if I can get past the hurdles, the gameplay is a snoozefest. Also those seasons passes (plural) and the microtransactions the game got going for it can suck it...
