O yeah. I should have mentioned the upcoming demise of Contorl Panel. They still (IMHO) have not found a replacement for Add/Remove programs - but I expect the end of that when they put more resources into "depreacting" CP
    TO Add/Remove programmes.....couldn't be simpler.

And that's the bit which wasn't working - the automation in that wizard is flaky, or at least it was when I tried it for my accounts.
I found I needed to go to Control Panel and do it manually - which is the point here.
Hmmm...... guess I've been lucky then - can only report what I've experienced.

I'm more concerned about losing the "System" applet in CP and thus losing easy access to System Protection and Advanced System settings etc.

    Hi there

If they remove control panel how can I add email accounts manually - the automatic account set up doesn't work in Outlook 2016 if you have say an exchange server or non standard type servers with different passwords etc . The manual setup doesn't do anything unless you enter an email address - and that's no good for non standard type emails - the system can't find it -- Manual should mean Manual I/e you can enter the configuration yourself as used to be the case.

The traditional menus from the control panel applet works fine though screenshots below

Have you not answered your own question here Jimbo? See my #37 and 38 - that's what I get when I click to setup account manually, so the fact that at present it calls a CP applet doesn't really matter - behind that is the code to do whatever the applet does.

They would have to provide an alternative method.

I actually think what will happen is many of the advanced option screen will stay as they are, but accessible by a link from Settings rather than via CP. These menus will not be modernised.

CP is just a menu system when it comes down to it - it is the underlying self contained menys that are critical.

I agree. I have invested literally thousands of dollars and upgrades into 3rd party programs most of which put Univeral Apps to shame. And what is the story with Disk Cleanup. Microsoft I believe has put code into it now that hobbles its responsiveness as well as adding a User Directory - downloads - into the optional list. I disapprove of this. So if I install Windows 10 on my hard drives (it will remain on my wifes) rather than as a VM I will have evaluate 3rd party solutions for that. Hiss Boo Microsoft
Why do you need Disk Cleanup?....it has been replaced by IMHO a superior method.

    Hi there
    @VBF

I don't know what version of Office 2016 you are running -- earlier versions use to work just fine without control panel applet

Now after latest updates is where problem starts. You can't create new accounts without seeing the automated screen unless you go via control panel applet. This has only recently started so unless you've updated office recently or haven't tried to create anu accounts then you wont notice the problem.

Indeed - for example, if one uses Settings to UNINSTALL an update, (Settings > Update & Security > Update History) the Uninstall Updates link takes you to CP

I don't bother with Office updates as I do all the Security updates via various CUs and can't be bothered with so-called new features of Office. It does what I want in Word, Excel and Outlook. Could that be the answer?
