    Just to make this clear:

I am not, I was not criticising the American way to tell dates in no way. USA has decided to use that standard, and I have nothing against it. It's not for me to decide or tell how you should do it.

In my recent posts which were meant to be taken as jokes, however, there is an underlying point. Our beloved Ten Forums is truly a global site, we members coming from all corners of this globe of ours.

I have tried to do my best to understand this. I am quite proud of the fact that for instance if I am posting a time, I always post it in both the format most of the world is using and in format our US members can understand, for instance when saying something happens / happened at half past 7 in evening, I will post it as 19:30 (7:30 PM).

The same with dates. I will not post that something happened / happens on 1/2/2018, I will instead tell it as February 1st, 2018.

Please do not take this wrong. I have no authority to tell how times and dates should be told. My only point is that it would be good if we remembered that not all the world understands and uses the same expressions than the part of the world we are coming from.

There definitely is no right or wrong way. It all comes down to we do it the way we were taught.

That's because July 4th is the day of the holiday and 4th of July is the name of the holiday.

True but @Kari's point is valid - this is a global site, and users should use non ambiguous dates.

Equally many of our friends across the Pond use def F but do not actually state it is deg F for temperatures. The only time there is no conflict between C and F is when the temperature is -40.

I try to look where the member resides, and read the post accordingly. A global interpretation, if you will. Works for me.
