I haven't had the "Com Surrogate has stopped working" errors since yesterday's update. The July update precipitated it and now it appears August has fixed. We'll see ...

Your first mistake was saying "Don't want to be rude, but...." if you're going to be rude, be rude and then make someone call you out on it (they won't most likely).
Now that is a one good point; you are right.

People here are doing something useful, and all the spurious chit-chat detracts from their contribution in my opinion. I come here to see if there are any problems with the latest and greatest update.

Some people here don't seem very good at taking criticism.

How's that? Enough to get me kicked out?

This version Group Policy reset to default all items. i.e. "not configured". Just had to go back and set many items to enable or disable to fix. Just check your setting in the gpedit...

Also, CCleaner (avast version) will not clear reliability monitor entries (after I examine for real problems/solutions)as it did in the past. Not sure if everything is correctly configured for this to happen. Monitoring this annoyance for now.

I can't find any guidance on how to enable/disable the new mitigation via registry.
All the other mitigations have a section on this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...erabilities-in

I just did. I had one GP I enabled before this update. After updating 'Configure Automatic Updates' was still enabled and still set as it was before to 'Notify for download...'.

Two computers successfully updated through WU - Whew! I do feel lucky after reading the issues I've read here. MS Updates and Upgrades have become scary ordeals for me - .Net ran my CPU crazy for about 15 minutes after reboot but all seems fine now. Good luck to all.
Oh?! So I was not the only one experiencing this? :)
