Have you enabled any site push notifications in Edge? Remove those, and disable such feature and maybe the background process goes away...?

UUP updates is still slow on my desktop. It too almost 2 hours to get to 44% installed. I let it run and went to bed. When I checked this morning my desktop was at the log-in screen. I have no idea how long it actually took. I haven't tried my laptop yet.

Check taskmanager>performance>CPU. at the bottom is Up Time. Calc backward.

Updated, great to see Jump Lists working as they should

Still runs in the background, using memory; won't even suspend itself!

Have you also completely killed Cortana? Edge and Cortana seem to be heavily married to each other.
