Weird.... did you ever do that reg trick to force-feed Skippy registration? Maybe it's a leftover from that. There were some "issues" with it, if I recall........
Not on this computer. I switched over from fast to skip ahead when we were told to sign up for builds - during the early period of the ‘resurrection’ of skip ahead build and have downloaded skip ahead builds since then. Waiting to see what happens when we get next skippy.

May have nothing to do withit. But I had a strange message on Skippy, not this one but last, asking me to assign/connect/something the MS account I wanted to use. It was running fine, except for that message. I went ahead and made it happy....never got message again.

Yeah, I looked at build sign-up page and have not been booted back to fast at this time, so we’ll see.

The ability to sign up for Skip Ahead, Count. I grabbed my chance this time; now I have one Production Computer, one Fast Ring Computer and this Desktop dual booting Production and Skip Ahead.

I'm happy with what I have.

I have tremendous respect for your obvious knowledge 'n experience with PCs, however unless I'm mistaken (it wouldn't be the first time), I think you may have missed one step in diagnosing your machine that has boot failure during setup. As a last resort, OS install while Internet is totally disconnected should not fail with basic drivers, and would blow my mind if unsuccessful. If after you verify all that I'm saying it ends up being wrong, at least I tried to help. Just let me know.

"WU errors" mostly end up being false assumptions, and my experience shows the worst problem is the auto-install of improper graphics drivers by WU, which btw inherently could never be perfect at that task for the myriad of older devices. Subsequently, the statement that I question most is that "Windows found all the appropriate drivers..." and I'm not even familiar with the machine in question. I'd bet those drivers are different than what the manufacturer recommends for that specific AMD graphics model. Again, if my premise is erroneous please say so.

Following are links to your 2 posts on this issue, and ASH8's description of how offline installs can make the difference on older PCs, plus to my July 18 article...

I'm surprised Microsoft has so successfully made Windows work on almost every computer known to man or woman! I've even put it on some that are older'n dirt! Oh, wait, that's me, not the computers.

BTW, I have an AMD processor in this desktop and have had very few problems with Windows 10 throughout the Insider Program. The same goes for my HP AMD laptop and my 14" Lenovo Flex 4 Ideapad with an Intel processor.

Just making it work on many computer configs is not enough, making it work good and with variety of components and peripherals is a challenge. I used dozens of Linux distros and they all worked but how well is the problem. On most of them are various problems with sound, video and network, mostly WiFi.

I would not compare Linux and Windows at all. They are from 2 completely different worlds. Biggest difference is lack of hardware vendor driver support. Most drivers in Linux has been reverse engineered in order to at least get the basics working. Later some devices has vendor support for Linux and those devices run exceptionally well on any Linux distribution.

They just hail from different families and target users. Linux from from Unix, professional OS for highly professional users and programmers which Linus Thorvald tried to tame it enough for ordinary users. Gates&co. were primarily concerned with "Other folks" not requiring high skills just to run a PC.
