I'm one of those that would gladly donate to a free program if that program was useful. I did donate a tenner to Piriform for Ccleaner in the good old days. I would also be happy to donate to Macrium free but they don't supply a link for one.
You can always purchase a license and still use the free version of Macrium.

I was thinking of donating a tenner for the free not nearly half a hundred quid for the pro version I wouldn't use.

Okay, I'm a bit of a scrooge but would still like to show my appreciation for a great free app.

I use the 545 portable CC version without any monitoring checked. I also blocked CC outgoing traffic with a firewall rule and that stopped the AD. I also use Bleachbit because I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to tracking and also freeing up as much space as I can.

I tried HDCleaner and I like the layout, interface, and capabilities, but I ran into some problems. As I went through the config and checked what I wanted cleaned I found that I was loosing my folder layouts that I set, for example, medium icon view, went back to detail view. I fixed that after much troubleshooting by unchecking MRU Cache. Further testing found that it was deleting my pinned Quick Access. I am still trying to figure that one out. I did contact the developer and he is working on it, along with other issues that have been reported.

    Tried Bleachbit.

As you check the settings to clean, do not see an option for Edge only IE ?

Buy the Macrium Reflect Pro version. I got it when it was on sale for $39 (I think) several years ago. It's $69 now which is a little high I think, should be priced at $49. That way you not only support it but get the Pro features.

Here is a chart comparing Macrium versions: Macrium Reflect 7

I don't like Bleachbit. It cleans the junk files fine but then it starts to wipe the free space on a SSD drive which wears it out and I lose tons of space. First time it happened I restored it using my Macrium image. Then the next time I tried it again and it started to wipe the free space I actually used CCleaner which gave me back the free space.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately as a home user I use Macrium for three things only. The rescue disk, just straight imaging and cloning and that's it. Don't need or want anything else. Hence that I would like to donate to show appreciation for a superb freebie. That's all but unfortunately that is not available.

OK, I have been able to resolve all of my issues mentioned in post #53 so far regarding Folder View Layout, Pinned Quick Access, and a few other items that I don't want cleaned. I need to do additional testing to see if anything else is affected but for now it looks good.

    Clear the following cleaner items:
    System History Tracks:
    Each Folder display settings
    MUI Cache
Recently accessed application files and actions

    Windows History Tracks:
    Autoplay devices
    Cached shell extensions
    Icon cache
    Jump lists
    MS Notepad
    Print Queue
    Windows Shellbags

    Windows Store History Tracks:
    Immersive control panel
    HP Printer control

I must have got lucky and didn't even know it. All your suggestions were unchecked in my set up. I pretty much like HDC. So far my only problem is it will randomly shut down when switching tabs or selections or even selecting Options. It's not consistent or repeatable. Otherwise it seems to do a good job.
