One positive change in 18204 is that it loads network drivers and enables network earlier than previous Insider builds. Checking the issue described in my earlier post (see above referral), I noticed that network was enabled quite late in boot sequence, Windows usually booting to desktop without network connection and only enabling network a few seconds later.

In 18204, network is enabled quite early (before sign in) and all my mapped network drives are connected automatically when on desktop. This is as it in my opinion should be.

Network maybe, i din't check for that but internet gets active and connected way deep in BOOT process, sometimes even after desktop is up.

I can't remove any drivers as the device is not listed at all in device manager

The only possible thing I can think of is the vhd/installation I am booting to, was initially created in Hyper-V which only has an "ethernet" connection, and I use same vhd to native boot from Host. I am certain I have done this before though and detected wifi - so something is not working correctly.

I guess I am going to have to try directly install on host to see if it detects the wifi adaptor that way.
Arghh - just clean installed direct to host, and it only detects and ethernet adaptor in oobe. No sign of wifi - I do not have a physical wifi on/off switch.

    So definitely fubared.

"Automatically move pointer to the default..." doesn't work in this Build!

I gave Microsoft the following feedback:

How likely am I to recommend each new Build?

I keep replying that I haven't even had time to see if I like the new Build, much less know if I would push it onto an unsuspecting friend or client!

If Microsoft needs this information so badly, at least give me time to explore for a couple of days! Sheesh!

I hope to get some upvotes on this, since it's getting rather monotonous.

More to the point perhaps, why would anybody really recommend a build anyway?

We just install them sequentially anyway, with the expectation that each build is incrementally improved.

At best, we might say Build xxxxx is really buggy, avoid that one i.e. a negative recommendation.

Besides, it is the base requirement of the Insider Programne to remain up to date.

I agree with Wynona - basically a stupid question.

    Upvoted in Feedback Hub.

This is my response to the question (not in the Feedback Hub.)

"This question is asked too soon after release of a build for a considered answer. And --- Insider builds would only be recommended to someone with at least some ability to work around, or recover from, a problem, if such occurs."

But this 18204 build is a vast improvement over the previous 'Fast' builds, at least on my system. (This is my first foray into Skippy.)
Glad to see "Periodic" scanning by Windows Security is available again (missing from the last 2 or 3 builds. And that explorer.exe doesn't hang intermittently several times a day. Also that 3rd party apps load quickly, as they should.

I wait a bit for indication of wi-fi network connection before I enter my PIN. Fast and Skippy are connecting for me within 2 or 3 seconds after the lock screen pops up on these latest builds. That's a big change from some past builds.

Lol, it's even worse with UWP APPs, they are asking for review even before you download them.
