I don't like it because whatever sort of shut-down or restart I do, I want the PC to completely shut down and reload everything.
As you say, the faster starting utilises Hibernate and as such is not a REAL shut down.

Also as I have SSDs it's a bad idea to hibernate, so I don't actually use it. The reason I haven't disabled hibernation is in case I did want to use it for some reason - the last thing I want is Windows making that decision for me!
Agreed. I have it disabled as I also have an SSD. Do you find MS keep turning it back on after feature upgrades?

It's getting to the point where it's impossible to keep drinking the KoolAid. Most of MS problems stem from the relentless upgrade cycle and the lack of proper patch testing. A2U is fast becoming FCU all over again....should I be surprised?

Perhaps when Redstone cycle actually changes it'll actually be a different product. Not better, just newer and different.

Yes! Along with System Restore and several Services that I've chosen to disable and the mods I've made to Task Scheduler!

And I quite agree with your other comments - (snipped for clarity) - when will MS learn "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Whose <expletive deleted> computer is it anyway?

After installing, rebooting and shutting down I was unable to connect to my WiFi.

Reverting back to 17134.167 got it going again, let's see if the next time it installs it breaks....
Yeah, I keep having this kind of issue.

    Suggestion:
    Make a Restore Point!
Leave it running for several hours or however long you think it might take to fail - confirm it's solid without this latest CU.
Check the Event Viewer for anything untoward.

Update drivers for the Edimax Adapter
Assuming it works, leave it running for several hours or however long you think it might take to fail - confirm it's still solid without this latest CU.
Check the Event Viewer for anything untoward.

Apply the CU and test for several hours or however long you think it might take to fail
    Make beverage and update thread

This drives me nuts. I am not a fan anyway in such frequent feature updates but the fact it doesn't respect many of your settings/decisions is down right annoying. Like many others, I turn off fast start. What's the point with an SSD, boot up with or without it enabled on my machine is more or less identical and it wastes HD space as well as possibly increases unnecessary write cycles. But of course every feature update it's switched back on. System restore I like to have enabled, it's rubbish but gives an extra possible avenue of recovery if something hoses up. Seemingly opposite to others but every feature update it gets switched off by default. Grrrr!!!! There are other things it resets too but I'll end up writing an essay. Less feature updates, less cumulative updates. Not bothered about new features or change (which often break things), I want familiarity and reliability but that's not the MS mantra these days (or many other software juggernauts to be fair to MS).

This interim update just like the previous one doesn't appear unless you set Defer feature updates to zero. What's going on?
Well, and this is just a guess, it's deliberate.

If I were a small business that just had a few PCs I wouldn't have the time or resources to set up my own Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to manage my own distribution of updates in the way that large Enterprises do. I'd be at the mercy of Windows Update. I'd be really annoyed at unexpected restarts every week or so. So perhaps only the regular monthly updates install automatically if you set anything other that 0 days in the Defer settings?

Microsoft being mindful of the needs of their users? I know it sounds far-fetched, but it's one plausible explanation
