That's pretty much exactly what I got last week. Following that I've been having "COM Surrogate Stopped working" regularly in Reliability Monitor. In fact if I run Reliability either from Cortana or the link in Control Panel, it triggers the error.
Good luck ...
I have never had an issue installing windows updates....til now.
This one just refuses to go in no matter what tricks I try.
Didn't wreck my install or anything. Just keeps failing with Error code: (0x80073712).
Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later.
Same results doing it through windows update or downloading the stand alone from MUC.

Just checked for updates (3 times) - no update.
Edit: downloading now, at the 4th attempt.

No, I haven't either... until now.
My wrecked x64 Home machine (BSOD and an unrepairable boot error loop) updated without a problem second time round after restoring the 17134.165 image from Tuesday evening and checking for updates in Windows Update....Didn't wreck my install or anything. Just keeps failing with Error code: (0x80073712).

My x86 machine failed seven times through Windows Update with...
0x80240034 WU_E_DOWNLOAD_FAILED Update failed to download.

The standalone installer from the MUC worked though.
Not that I can see. In fact, Macrium restores a more faithful copy of the imaged system than Microsoft's own 'backup & restore - create a system image' does. A restored Microsoft system image has had windows update reset, it losses all the update history and (annoyingly) forgets about any updates that had been hidden. None of that is lost with Macrium.
Macrium restores the files exactly where they were, even preserving the file fragmentation (as we found out here) so it's not likely to make it any faster. Microsoft on the other hand just restores the file contents, but doesn't preserve the physical layout. A restored MS system image will be more or less unfragmented.
