I am just guessing and speculating, but I think I was under attack by a Windows 10 Anti-Piracy feature.

    My theory is that ...

Windows 10 does not work after major updates because the Windows 10 Anti-Piracy Data Base gets completely reset.

Windows 10 requires an active internet connection to correctly validate your software applications, especially older legacy third party applications.

If you do not have an active network connection, your applications will just mysteriously crash or disappear.
Microsoft must really hate pirates with a passion to punish legitimate users also.

You apparently have to manually restart each and every effected application once (while connected to the internet), they will then crash or disappear, restart automatically and come back up working perfectly (If your not a pirate I guess)?

I was totally shocked by this weirdness. Two weeks wasted by a hidden anti-piracy feature.

If you are offline, which I am most of the time, you only get the crash and vanish behavior.

I erroneously assumed I had something wrong with my system and/or the software was now incompatible.

Windows 10 now appears to be working (online and offline), except for a major glitch associated with custom high contrast themes?

Past few days, my machine has been running EXE's very, very, excruciatingly slowly. Takes up to 20 seconds for a simple program to launch. Running this update for 30 minutes, and so far, all EXE's are starting normally... very quickly. Fingers crossed!

    KB4345421 Causes System Crash?

I had BSOD that has been previously reported with a minidump created this morning. Message on PC said it needed to restart but had not. I had to force with a power down. Thankfully it booted back up. phew

Looking back through event log it appears to have crashed during a windows update. Checking windows update this fix was pending. I restarted the update. It reinitialized and installed successfully after reboot.

Hopefully issue resolved. I ran winDbg and have included the text output. Doesn’t mean a lot to me honestly but have attached the file in case it might mean something to others and help them. To answer questions on what system I have ... I've also included the system information output.

Until this issue I have had a rock solid system since running Windows 10 1803 however last week my PC became unbootable. It appeared the SSD drive had failed but the tech that I took my system to, said that a windows system file was corrupted and there were registry errors. She recovered the system and told me the SSD drive was healthy. I later found an issue with PerfectDisk Pro 14 throwing a bunch of errors so their support provided a utility to clean the system and reinstall, which I did. I wondered if this caused the boot disk issue.

And now this error with the application of this windows update. Coincidence or unrelated ... unknown.

Don't expect any answers to this post ... just sharing my experience.

Edit ... I found some wer dumps at the time of the error at 4:46 am this morning and following the reboot this morning. Odd also that reviewing the section of my system info windows error reporting there are errors with time stamps at 12:57 PM today which has not occurred yet ...

Interesting, WU in Settings shows no updates as of 9:50PM EST last night. The task scheduled WU ran at 7:48AM this morning with no update. Maybe later today, this week, this month?

Same here. Did a manual update check and it found it, installed it very quickly.

One system was updated yesterday and 2 office systems were updated this morning with no discernable problems. All seemed to go well.

PerfectDisk corrupted your SSD. I dropped that dumb program years ago when it ruined a spinning HD. Thrashing the drives to defrag which speeds up nothing.
