    FYI -

For people attempting to uninstall Skype for Business, not the regular Skype mentioned in this thread, see:

On the contrary, methinks, judging by my experiences with v8 unexpectedly popping up in recent months: time to ditch Skype completely, I'm afraid.

No. Skype for Business is different from the Consumer version. Two different products.

    Hope this helps!
Thanks for the confirmation. I did a macrium image in the event that things went south, installed V8 and V12 remained as installed. Will play with both and in the event I want to uninstall V12, will follow your instructions above. Tx

I installed skype 8.**, 20 minutes later I uninstalled 8 and upgraded back to skype classic. Skype 8 is a huge waste of screen space with 0 options to change how anything looks or works. I won't be updating to 8 again.

I don't like how it piggybacks on the Store app that I hate but did you miss this in Post 1 ? -

"We are encouraging everyone to upgrade now to avoid any inconvenience as only Skype version 8.0 will work after September 1, 2018. As we roll out improvements, there comes a time when we must shut down older services and application versions."

I did not miss it, I am just not afraid of moving away from skype to another program.

Discord works alright and at least with discord if I click on a name to chat with somebody it puts the chat focus in the chat area automatically. I dislike a great many things about skype in general.

I don't use the calling/video calling aspect, so I won't miss it much if I do have to leave.

There appear to be two versions of Skype 8.25 -
    1. Skype for Windows, from the store, which will not permit full screen.

    2. Skype for Desktop, which is sort of like Classic, though with an abortion of a UI. It's more like a proper Windows programme however, and will run windowed, full screen or minimised. Press [Alt], and you get the standard Windows menu (File, Edit, View, etc)

I've put this one on and am trying to like it, but it's difficult!

In common with a lot of software recently there is terrible waste of screen space, and lots of un-neccessary frippery.

Got that email, too. And when I fired up my trusty Skype 7.41, a "new contact" had sent me a "card"! How thoughtful!

    Not....
