Because people think privacy trumps continuity? It's a double-sided argument. Personally, I think convenience shouldn't come at the price of being tracked.

If only MS wanted to use the telemetry to actually improve the product. I don't think following trends to establish features should be a thing entirely, however. Imagine how the data is skewed always toward the lowest common denominator.
I use Timeline and there are 2 options related to Timeline in Privacy > Activity History and, as shown below, this setting should allow Timeline to operate without sending everything to MS especially if the PC is NOT logged into MS - mine never are! Alternatively (or additionally) "Show activities from accounts" may be switched off.

This is good. It does rely on both sides nailed up and the data collection being at Basic, plus the other device.

I see this as taking far too much forethought though to achieve it and who on earth reads all the terms of each privacy option fully or knows which toggles to turn on or off?

I appreciate you fighting the good fight! :)

Actually, since W10 arrived, I've been keeping and updating a list of such things to act as a "crib sheet" for future updates - but i'm sad
More to the point, we shouldn't have to be doing it...should we?

    Why disable Timeline ?
(Just a question out of curiosity.)
Because it does not work with Firefox or Chrome. I hate the Edge browser and never use it except to download Firefox or Chrome on a new setup.

Maybe not FF/Chrome, but it works with a lot of other things besides Edge and IE. Anything that handles a 'document' seems to be there. Notepad, MS Office and even my 18 year old Paint Shop Pro all appear in my Timeline.

Since I am always moving stuff around many times timeline shows files that are no longer working so it is useless if I have to manually remove broken links from timeline.

Why? Because for now I have no need for it, maybe later but not now.

I've been testing for hours and my computer gets restarted when using a bluetooth xbox one controller, it doesn't get restarted when I uninstall the update. My bluetooth support has been bad in the past (intel wifi with bluetooth), but has been stable with the latest driver for some months now.
